Hi

I've been having a unique issue with my a3 gearbox, essentially I get a gearbox malfunction error after driving for 15 minutes and then the car decides to stop using gears 2,4&6 I also can't put the car into reverse unless i turn it off and leave it for a bit. I've been told that the mechatronics unit needs replacing but other dsg specialists are telling me a clutch replacement is required. I've only had the car for a month and it has been driven for about 45k miles. the dealer is willing to repair the car but is telling me to find a suitable mechanic. let me know if any of you guys have had this issue and how you've managed to resolve it.

Tell him you found one and take it to the main dealership to fix :p

Failing that: If you've bought a used car from a dealership, you have the right to return the car within the first 30 days of purchase.

lool the thing is, main dealer thinks it's the mechatronics i've been warned that if i replace the mechatronics unit with a new one the problem could persist as it's more than likely that the clutch is at fault but yh main dealer technicians seem to be donuts these days
Maybe the dsg is in need of a service. It should be done at 38k if it’s not been done.
The car had one lady owner who apparently only serviced it at audi but you're right dsg probably needs an oil replacement

Would go with the service before you start replacing parts like mechatronics or clutch plates. I’ve had a few cars now with dsg boxes(dry and wet clutches)and some of them never got serviced, company cars, and still worked beyond 70-80ks without a problem so doubt you needing new clutch plates. Mates mk5 golf gti has dsg with 120k and not replaced clutches
