Audi dealer says 0w-30
Some members on another forum say Millers 5w40, some say 5w-30 and tps gave me quantum synta 5w-40.

I'm using Millers 5w30 C3 VW. I've checked millers website and they recommend 0w20. I think it is due to the emissions but I'm not a specialist :D

I changed the oil 800 miles ago, I hope 5w-40 is OK.... Can't see tps saying its OK, when it's not.

My 2019 1.5 takes 0w-30. When I asked back in 2019 Audi Liverpool thought it was 5w-30, but they have now realised what needs to be put in.

Sorry should of mentioned mines a s3

Thanks, just spoke to tps they said use 5w-30 or 5w-40

Either 5w-30 or 5w-40 is fine for an S3 but won't go into the whys and wherefores as there's enough of that on this forum and others. Just make sure it's the correct specs and away you go :s3addict:

...now waiting for the flood of you should use this that or the other oil only due to blar blar blar :whip:

Thanks, much appreciated.

That is strange so many oil types will fit into an A3 ... Perhaps no big differences... I always used 5W-30 Castrol LL or C3

Think more importantly it needs to be vw spec 504 or 507, can’t remember which one. there’s also a 508 and last time I asked dealer they said it’s for the newer cars with the number designation like 35tfsi and supposedly isn’t backwards compatible and it’s only 0w20. Sounds like a low viscosity oil for efficiency/emissions to me.
The viscosity of the oil is depends on climate you drive in. Number in front of W is the oil in cold which is important for cold cranking, so if you live in the arctic you want 0, and higher number is temperature where the oil starts breaking down or too runny to be effective cause it’s too hot.
there’s probably a lot more to it than that but the basics there

Acea a3/B4
502/505.00
5w-40
Synta as above in my previous post is what I'm using.

As per my handbook 502.00 is the specification for petrol engines on fixed interval (yearly) oil changes. It's what the dealers used in mine. 504.00 is the specification for petrol engines on variable (extended) service intervals. 507.00 is the recommended oil for diesel engines. Obviously no problem in using 504.00 even for annual changes. Most oils meet both 504 and 507 specifications and can be used in either engine type.

When I used shell the engine was much louder ... I immediately drained it and replaced with castrol, engine was then fine

I've found Shell Helix Ultra to be extremely good at quietening down my TDI. It had Texaco oil in when I bought it. Funnily enough, Shell Helix Ultra is John Deere OEM oil rebadged as John Deere and JD diesel engines are probably the most reliable in the world. In fact they're probably about the best thing to come from USA.
