Morning all,

Having researched this topic a fair amount, I’ve found very little info with regards to removing the downpipe on the 8v PFL. There’s a lot of content about the FL - Has anyone done this job on a PFL? Elsawin workshop manual suggests it’s a case of removing the exhaust and driveshaft, but not the front subframe, like I’ve seen necessary on the FL, I assume because of the Cat being smaller/there being no OPF?? Can anyone confirm it’s absolutely necessary to remove the drive shaft from the car and not just move it to the side and is there any way to do this without the specialist puller type tool??

So, regardless of FL/PFL(non-OPF and OPF), the driveshaft comes off because you can't get the downpipe out even if you get it detached. There's not enough room to wiggle it out. You will need a puller to keep the shaft together.

Carden shaft off job.
Make sure you handle it with care, otherwise it can be damaged very easily in the middle joint, so a 2 man job to remove easily.

Subframe usually just needs loosing a little to give an extra inch or so to wiggle the Cat etc out.
