Coolant level

Hi all
S3 8v, 64 plate

my coolant level drops (just around the minimum mark) when the car is warmed up. If you let the car cool down, or release the cap slowly, the level comes back up to the max mark.

Is this normal? Or a common thing? Or a fault?

The coolant expands with heat, so yes after a drive it will naturally show more when cap is unscrewed & pressure, you need to check on a cold engine flat surface & top-up to the top max mark, don't worry about it if over when engines hot as that's normal.

It takes many hours to cool down, only when it's a cold reservoir should you count the level as gospel.
