Had my 2013 Q5 for a month now and there is a odd scrapping sound which you can feel in the steering wheel when turning the whee at at low speeds such as parking, no issues actually driving.

At first thought it was the clock spring so tested that with another and it was the same.

I’ve got a intermediate shaft on order but instead of just replacing it for the hell of it can I disconnect the inside connector to the shaft and turn the wheel with it disconnected?

Will it damage the clock spring?

Is there a bearing at the top end or is all part of the steering column?

Its hard to pin point where its coming from as you can hear it at both ends of the steering.

Any ideas?

Had a rubbing/binding sensation at low speed tight turns, some noise as well. Turned out to be rubber bush where steering shaft exits body underneath.
Dealer said is known issue, and fixed by turning bush and /or lubricating where shaft rubbing on bush (2020 SQ5)
