Hello! This thread will document my journey with my 59 Audi A3 Quattro Black Edition 170.

I plan to take it from where it is now to fully specced out, which may include some big jobs like a pan roof.

The upcoming retrofit will be OEM LED footwell lights front and rear, where the brightness can be controlled through the DIS. Right now, I've got to focus most of my money on some body work issues, so retrofitting may not happen as much as I would like.

As well as retrofitting, I'm also going for big power because people have called my car the diesel S3, so it's only fitting I live up to that. Other than the engine and a few minor styling differences, there are not many differences between the two models, but I'm going for more than S3 power... eventually.

Some may wonder, "Why not get a fully specced out A3 or S3?" Well, I've grown to love this car even though it's had all my money thrown at it since day 1, but if you knew the story behind it, you'd understand why.

Anyways, you get an idea of what you'll see here. I'll update everything I do to keep a log for myself and others who want to follow along!

Current Retrofits Completed are;
- TTRS Steering Wheel
- TTRS Gear Knob
- Cruise Control

For certain things that you wish to put into your build u will need the VCD's so imo i would be thinking about buying a genuine cable as it the best investment u will ever buy when it comes to doing a build and retrofitting things . Not a thing usually mentioned when people post about your work .
All the best with ur build and i will follow you . Cheers

I agree.
I'll be including coding screenshots with every retrofit that needs it!

Thanks for your comment!

Yeah, wish I started with a quattro. For big power start looking at turbo/intercooler/pump: 2260vk/wagner intercooler/cp3 pump and someone to tune it (BSR - Bobby Singh Racing whose on this forum).

I didn't know the CBBB engine was capable of high power, but I saw on another forum someone with the same age and engine was running 395bhp & 660nm in a 'Rocco. I'm not sure if I'll ever get mine to that power, but knowing it'd be able to put the power down with Quattro is handy. If my memory serves me right, I believe Bobby Singh tuned it.

This stuff will not happen overnight, but I'm slowly going to gather parts and update the post when I install things :) I just wish I could skip to the part where everything is done ahaha

Indeed it was Bobby, I know the car youre speaking of. Mine needs to be dyno'd but its 2260vk / wagner intercooler / cp3 pump with stock injectors etc etc also tuned by Bobby.

What power are you hoping to achieve? Around 280bhp? Is there anywhere else where we can message as I don't want to fill this thread up

I think you can DM after a certain number of posts? So, I've not driven it much since its been tuned (last August?) because I was away for work, then decided to swap the panels/lights/afs...went a little overkill. I think it'd be 280 on stock injectors/without porting etc etc. Once I've finished i'll take it to Surrey rolling road and see what I get.

I did plan on going to 300 etc 250-280 is enough.

Following! Doubt I'll go past stage 1, but maybe I'll get inspired here :D

After around a month of settling into my new job, I've finally started to get some bits for the A3.

1

Firstly I managed to pick up an Audi Nav Plus MK2 unit (8P0 035 193 G) for cheap which completely changed my interior. I've briefly looked over the coding and it seems to be set up correctly but I may have a better look this weekend. I had to buy a GPS antenna which plugs into the back and was able to pick up 5/6 satellites so the Nav works perfectly. I think I just need to get a new disc with updated maps, 7 Digit Postcodes and Speed Cameras.

As I want all the features to work I need to address my broken or non-existent telephone module (77). VCDS cannot communicate with the module which makes me think if something is coded wrong or if the module is bust or it doesn't exist at all. If someone could shed some light on this it would be great :)

Finally, the Mrs got me some S3 Mirror caps but I can't have them till Xmas :(

Have you got the old style build in mobile thing inside armrest. If so if u use an iphone 4/4S am sure ur telephone module will work . Atm u should still be able to use the rnse mk2 for answering calls, am not 100% sure even if you have the iphone if u can call out .
All functions on MFSW if u have should work with rnse other that the mode button if i mind .hope that kinda helps

I don't have anything ipod/iphone related in the car, could that be the problem? did all BEs come with a Bluetooth module?

For as long as I can remember the mode button and the voice button have "no function"

I know the progress is slow but Rome wasn't built in a day lol!

So after three weeks of listening to my dad's WHO CD collection I've finally bought the 32-pin Aux Bluetooth adapter!

318090897 2455038604634151 6688560864940627471 n
Pretty simple install. Plug the 32-Pin connector in and then put the positive (red wire) in no.13 wire in the D block, which in my case was a blue/green wire and the negative (black wire) in no.12 wire which was a thick brown wire in the same block. This will ensure that the Bluetooth module will turn off with the car and turn on with the ignition. I connected them by using this Halfords Cable Connector Self Strip.

We checked the coding and changed it accordingly. My previous coding was 0209725 which told RNS-E I had AMI installed, which I do not. So I changed it to 0209755 which enabled AUX-IN, the coding was accepted but it still wasn't showing. After rebooting the RNS-E by holding Radio and Setup for a few seconds the AUX-IN option appeared! Well chuffed. :)

I've been busy buying!

Firstly, I bought a genuine oil service kit from Audi Parts Direct which cost me £50. It took some research but the oil filter for a CBBB is 071115562c and the oil is ZGB115QLB01505. I was very nervous they were gonna be wrong but after a week of waiting to service the A3, I finally got round to it and my research paid off as the filter and sump plug were correct :) All good for a few thousand miles :p

319177859 1327778171380031 1510850976447347672 n

Secondly, I've been looking for a new set of genuine mats as mine are non genuine and completly f**ked! All the ones I've found have a lot of wear, until I came across these beauties in wales. The guy bought the car in 2009 and instantly replaced these with rubber mats and have spent their time in storage since. Nice find for £40! These will be going into hibernation till summer

The final purchase of the week is...
319013627 3228485167404341 1655347597070629869 n
A 2.5" Darkside DPF Downpipe & EGR Blanking Kit!!!
This is getting fitted on NY Eve morning and I will document the whole process as I haven't found any good tutorials or anything to get references from.
The car will then be getting mapped on Jan 7th.

It's going to be a busy few weeks! I'll have more updates when Santa delivers some more bits lol

I'm back with another update!

The DPF and EGR delete has been installed! Thanks to my dad for the help :)

Look at all that room!
Here's a link to what it sounds like

I also picked up a new airbox and air feed/duct as mine was severely broken and had huge cracks and holes at the bottom.
314715905 5534120370030852 9146289626846251549 n
It came with a reasonably new RamAir panel filter too!

It's going for mapping on the 7th of Jan so I will update this side of things around that time.

I'm now trying to focus on speccing the car up more and found this gem on FB marketplace for £20!!!
323578788 3450209615200030 6832775885431124914 n
Parcel Shelf with the net and hook underneath! I don't think the guy knew what he had as I've only seen one on eBay for £90. I'm unsure if this is a part of the luggage or storage pack but if someone could clarify that would be great so I can aim to finish the pack.

I'll do another big update with some other goodies later on in the week :)

So everything works perfectly with pin 13 and module actually turns off when you remove the key? The only reason i gave up on that module is because i found multiple threads here on forum saying p13 is a CAN signal for radio to turn on and as such wont actually turn off the module and to achieve that you would need to run a piggyback from fusebox.

Yeah, it all works fine & turns off. I installed it on my friend a3 the other day too and he has had no problems!

I've been busy again!
This time I installed front footwell lights from @RobinA3. What a difference this makes to the inside vibe of the car! I'm pleased with the quality and how easy it was to install. So if anyone is interested in retrofitting footwell lights or anything else light related jump over to his website https://rocketwires.co.uk/. I'll be ordering some more goodies from Robin soon :)

I blame the weather for the messy mats so don't judge lol.

I've also had my map tweaked to accommodate the recent deletes and have made 218bhp 471nm, this is as far as I will be able to push this engine with stock turbo etc but a new snail will hopefully be in my possession at the end of the year :)

They're on the list! Can I still keep my big dumbo mirros or will have I have to get the 2011 mirrors? I'd like to keep these ones ideally.

Well... the project is sadly over!

Financially I couldn't justify the price to get it to 250bhp-300bhp.

So, I'm hoping to buy a S3 this weekend lol
