Evening all,

I’ve never really been an active contributor on these forums, more of a lurker when I have an issue and there tends to be someone with a solution. Unfortunately, I thought it may be worth to make this thread to let some be aware of whats going on and share my experience.

For context:
I’ve had an extremely high spec facelift RS3 two years with a steering wheel lock on it without an issue. My parents have lived here for 30+ years and never had an issue. The area has always been relatively safe. There used to be an RS3 on the same road for 5 years until about 9 months ago (it was sold), they had no trouble. There are 2 “M” cars on my road, 2 “S” cars and 1 “AMG” close by. They’ve never had an issue as I talk to the owners.

One month ago, 2 men came up to my front door trying to jimmy it open. They were not successful so they resorted to booting the door down. Whilst trying to boot the door down, my mum was downstairs watching TV. She then started screaming for help. My father (who was asleep) then ran down and tried to push the door closed and stop them from entering. They had managed to get it open however the broken glass was stopping them from fully opening it with ease. I was on xbox with noise cancelling headphones on, I eventually heard and then ran down. By then they started had running off to the getaway car.

They still tried to get in even with my dad holding the door shut screaming for help. Luckily some people on the street heard this all going on and came out to see what was going on. The get away car reversed and they both ran into the car and drove off. Luckily they didn’t get in fully but It’s still shaken all of us up. I have parked the car at a friends house over 10 miles away whilst we wait for a new door to arrive. I checked the car for a tracker before parking it at my friends house.

It just so happens that 3 days ago, I took the car back for a night at mine as it was due a service at Audi in the morning. 2 men pulled up to my friends house in balaclavas looking for the car that night. He also lives in a very nice area with little criminal activity going on. From the CCTV footage, it looks like different people than the blokes that tried to break into my house.

I understand these cars are a target but THIS BAD? I had to wait till It’s serviced to sell but now that it’s done, It’s going. From what I gather it’s mostly RS but not M & AMG. Is this due to the RWD aspect? 30 years+ my parents have never had a problem, have an RS3 for 2 years and our front door is getting booted down.

What’s worse is the police openly said when seeing the CCTV footage that they can’t do anything and we should just call the house insurance. They also took 9 minutes to arrive.

Something needs to be done with the law because these crooks aren’t scared at all of the consequences and the police are so limited with resources, they cannot do anything. As you can probably tell, i’m pretty young and have worked my *** off for my dream car which resulted in my front door being booted in and my family not being able to sleep properly at night anymore. Makes me so angry.

I’m a huge petrol head and want to experience performance cars whilst I can as they are stopping in 2030 I believe, however i’m so scared now to get one. It sucks for petrol heads as you genuinely can’t have a nice car anymore without the worry of 3 men jumping out of a car trying to get in the house. I live in North West London for reference.

RS3’s seem to be top of the list for these scumbags just now, every day I see another has been stolen. Worst case for them they get caught, they get a slap on the wrist, and they’re back at your door next month. More chance of you ending up in jail for defending your family/property unfortunately.

I’d genuinely consider an older RS model if you still want the thrill of a performance Audi without the worry if it being stolen.

C5/C6 RS6, B5/B7 RS4, all great looking fast cars that will attract less attention than a new RS3

The most troubling thing is how they knew the car was at your friend's place so easily, that's what you should concentrate on as either they're tracking your car so check for magnetically attached tracker box or you're being followed.

Dreadful. This is an issue with items like MTBs, high value machinery - where people are likely following you. I'd do an audit of your online presence: do you post about your possessions, and is it easy to identify you and your address?

My RS3 is a PFL so perhaps less attractive anyway. But I feel some comfort that it's kept in an anonymous garage away from the house, which I hope adds a further hurdle to a similar theft.

Unfortunately once they clock it, they'll tag & wait, so unless it's locked behind an iron wall, then it seems they'll use any force they need to get the vehicle, these are pro's not random, disgusting, yes.

My friend owns a garage and we put it on the lift and had a check before I parked it at my other friends house, there didn’t seem to be a tracker however I know these people are crafty and find all sorts of places to hide them. For now, I’m just going to get rid of it ASAP which really sucks because I’ve worked really hard over the years to be able to get it.

I think i’m done with performance cars for a while. I couldn’t bare putting my parents and sister at risk like that again. Maybe in a few years time when things “hopefully” get better but it’ll be something like a Ford Mustang or similar. I think i’m done with the fast Germans. From what I’ve read, RS are severely targeted (I’m guessing Quattro, quick and 5 doors).

You are definitely being tracked mate, no way they would know that quickly where it was moved too, keep eye on your rear for follower's & I would check over that car with a fine tooth comb for a tracker box.

Get one of the apps that scans for them, won't get all of them but they will detect some of the easy ones. Like AirGuard for Android or the Apple one. Can't do any harm to try.

Get Ghost on your car as it can't even be driven off even if they have the keys eg give them they keys and lock the door whilst calling the Rozzers.

Or Pandora which has a "relay" lag afaik so they will be able to drive off and then a few minutes later the car shuts down.

Just for context I have owned a RS3 then a RS4 then a M5 then a M2 and now a M3 and I have never had any trouble.

TX.

Edit - the Police don't seem to give one **** so it is no surprise that the scumbags simply carry on.

The police do give a **** but you do need to use some logic & common sense, them being able to attend immediately is almost impossible these days due to cutback in policing due to the government funding, plus these types of robberies are over in the 1st 1-2 minutes so chances are they won't arrive in time anyway, you can't expect police to be round the corner for a every single crime, as much as I agree it's crappy, shxt, etc pick a word, unless we have our own personal security or police on every street corner which isn't possible at anytime, there will be delays as believe it or not there are murders, rapes, bad accidents, many other things going on that also take there attention.

Dont get me wrong, I feel the pain as I've been there for car damage to 2 S cars I used to have, but as per my issue it was over in literally 5 seconds as the little cxnts ran away, I know who it was & hypothetically one day they may have an issue with there cars too & a kind note...

I digress, it's not the polices fault, it's the government's shxt accountants that waste money on road works that have nobody actually working on those roads for weeks on end but shut down lanes cut speeds etc, it's a whole **** take, but still again, not the polices fault.

So respectfully, I disagree, they do care but they're stretched massively.

In some areas of the country car crime is rife, there are gangs of people driving around trying to locate and follow wanted cars. You may not have a tracker on the car but there will be several people in the area driving around looking for cars like yours and following them. Many years ago the Ford Escort Cosworth was the car to be pinched. They were dissapearing that fast they were almost impossible to insure . Personally with the experience you have had I wouldn't want that car around. Even if you have it secured at home people have been mugged for keys in supermarkets and other similar places when they have come back to the car.
North London is the number 4 place for car thefts in the country.

Recently had mine stolen, 6 guys entered the house when we were asleep so I’ve been in the same place. Ultimately I’ve upgraded everything security wise on the house. Bollards steering wheel locks, wheel locks. Shark with a laser beam on its head.

I work with surveillance distributors and they’ve recommended Ajax house alarms …nothing is going to stop someone wanting to kick down your door but an advance warning is always nice!

You’ve got to think that any car decent car is going to be a target. Friends down the road had their bog standard 1 series and e series nicked. . The chop shops make money off of everything. I’m in the midlands though and it’s like a war zone. To be fair to the police here they arrest loads of people, the system falls down on sentencing and prosecution.
