Yo guys, so I recently bought a 2011 A7. The oil gauge on the MMI was at around halfway which from my prev experience with my old A7 meant that it needed topping up to read full.

I didn’t realise until afterwards that the MMI level was off and doesn’t match the real level and consequently overfilled it with oil (think I put in around 500-800ml).

Now the car wobbles on startup (sound and movement source comes from the engine) and blue smoke from the exhaust.

It’s only felt on idle - 1000RPM and goes away when driving. As soon as it returns to idle the wobbling comes back.

No fault/error codes on the engine with the Carista ODB2 adapter.

I’ve got it booked into a garage but was just wondering if anyone has had a similar issue when overfilling oil? I get it will be improbable to identify the fault but any help/understanding with this would be great.

If it was hugely over one would expect an oil pressure warning, but did you remove some?

That’s true. Apparently the garage I brought it to drained off the excess oil but there’s been no movement on the MMI oil gauge. It’s in the garage tomorrow so I’ll post the outcome.

I did speak to a specialist and they said it the timing chain may need replacing.

SOLVED.
Late post on this but it turned out an injector was misfiring and I needed a new turbo. £1300.
All fixed and it runs lovely

What about the oil level issue?

Sorry for the late one.

It still drinks oil but then again I do rag the car in sport quite frequently.

Hi, me again. I replied to your other post about manifold chuffing. If the seals are worn on the injectors and the upper o rings are worn/weren’t replaced when you had the new injectors, then you can have oil pass through into the combustion chamber (and it can also be blown out and deposit on the manifold top as black tar/spatter)

I’ve done 155000 miles in mine and it gets a regular ragging, rarely needing to top up oil. So something not quite right.

hope this helps?

Hey mate how’s it going?

So, they replaced the exhaust manifold completely as they said it had cracked.

I drove it out for a test drive. Once the engine was warm I thought I would put it through its paces and there was a loud noise which sounded like a seal had blown in the engine.

They have taken it apart and have advised that the head gasket has fractured due to excessive heat.

They’ve sent a video to prove this.

The garage is going to tap and seal the fracture and put back together which should be a fix. If not, it will have to be a head gasket replacement.

Get the car back this week, looking forward to getting back on the road as I’m getting withdrawal symptoms now

Correction:

I meant the head, not the head gasket.

May need a cylinder head replacement.
