Hello,

I started my research lately to activate carplay in my car, so I was able to gather quite a lot of information but I'm not sure, if you can please guide me then let's start with the info of my vehicle:

German Audi Q3 Sportback 2020

Version: MH2p_ER_AU_P2711

PR codes: attached

USB: 'charge only

hardware cable: do I need the Obdeleven or obd2 or usb only to do the activation? is the attached diagram the proper connection to do this? if not, what do I need?

software: which VCDS version do I need? I tried to simulate with this online simulator but couldn't find the vehicle configuration in the Adaptation screen. Does it differ by version?
Activation method :
Activate CarPlay / Audroid Auto wirelessly

Module 5F - Information Control Unit > 10 - Adaptation

Select Vehicle Configuration and activate :

MirrorLink = On

WiFi_Client_HMI = On

Apple_DIO_Wireless = On

wlan_5ghz_switch = Activated

Apple_DIO = On

Google_GAL_Wireless = On

Thank you !

I have a 2020 Q3 - and OBD11 offers a capability to turn on CarPlay and have it work Wirelessly - you may have to use a USB cable as a one time connection during set up.

Back in 2020 Wireless Android Auto wasn't available as factory fit (became standard in MY2022) If you are in the Android Auto camp then you'd need a USB cable as standard - or if Wireless is your thing then I find one of these gizmos works perfectly: AA Wireless

Both Apple and Android use Bluetooth for authentication and then use Wifi for data transfer.

Thank you for your feedback, do you have smartphone interface ? because I don't have it, I read some feedbacks from the internet that obd11 will not work for me, that I need to use VCDS in order to activate it, I'm a little bit confused when I search about VCDS hex v2 is the cable same as OBD ? is VCDS will activate the carplay wirelessly too ?

Audi Smartphone Interface is a licenced product that cannot be activated via coding alone, ie it takes more then just using VCDS to tick a couple of boxes.

How can i be sure that i dont have smartphone interface please ? because I can connect my phone with Bluetooth and access to call & messages....

Select smartphone interface from your menu. If it says connect a device you have it, if it says visit dealer to activate etc etc then you don’t. If you have an android device and the MMI displays connect your vehicle make sure you have a compatible cable as android is way more fussy then apple CarPlay.

being able to connect your devise to BT, seeing your call logs and messages does not mean you have smartphone interface, it means you have Bluetooth as this is standard behaviour.

I dont have any Smartphone interface in my Menu, my only concern is to activate wireless Android carplay in my q3 because my USB is Charge Only. is it possible to activate it with VCDS please ?

You don't seem to understand that Android Auto (and Apple CarPlay) are part of what Audi calls "Audi Smartphone Interface", which your vehicle seems to not have. You cannot activate this via VCDS or any other coding tool as what's needed is more involved. You need to speak with a local Audi dealership or VW Group specialist.

Understood thank you for your explanations..I'll settle for AAWireless then :)

i can at least use AAWireless/CarLinKit it will work right? :D

no.
you need the smartphone interface activated by vag and most likely the usb port replaced so that it supports aa/CarPlay.
once that’s done the car link kit will give you wireless aa through that new usb port.
I had the same problem with my c7.5 a6 and by the sounds of it it’s the same in your q3.

Tried to explain above but I will try again...

You don't have Android Auto or Apple CarPlay (collectively known as Audi Smartphone Interface) and you cannot use a coding tool to turn this on, you need a specialist who would have the tools and knowledge to do this for you, either Audi or an independent, and your vehicle might not have the needed hardware to support this.

May the force be with you!

Thank you so much and sorry to be so slow to understand its a new world for me, I'm curious abt this part (specialist who would have the tools and knowledge to do this for you) which kind of tools or knowledge please ? it needs a licence too I guess ?

Hasret1505 - Do you have the MyAudi App installed on your Smartphone? If you do, then you can access the 'Standard Equipment' list that displays the hardware configuration your Q3 left the factory with. This is mine:

In the 'Audio and Communication' section you can see I have the 'Audi Smartphone Interface'. You need this hardware option installed for Apple CarPlay or Android Auto to work. As @DJAlix has described above you need the physical hardware for this to work - AA Wireless doesn't 'turn on' Android Auto.

Be aware that the individual country Audi importers specify the standard features and options appropriate for their local market - your local importer may have decided not to include those features.

@DJAlix sorry didnt saw your reply, the PR codes are in the topic as attachment, thank you
yer, am not gonna sit there for an hour typing them in to find out what you have. If you like, send me your vin and I will get you factory records in plain English. I can also see what might be possible.

That means that you have them already. If you mean Folding Mirrors then sorry, hardware retrofitting is needed.

Your vehicle specification has been sent via private message.

Audi Smartphone Interface is not officially possible on your vehicle as you don’t have some of the required hardware needed. If you visit a local retrofit specialist they should be able to fit the correct parts and unofficially activate what’s needed.

As for what’s possible to activate, that’s an open ended question. I can never give a 100% answer for any vehicle as whats possible is specification, hardware and software related And unfortunately I don’t have the time to sit down and reverse engineer your factory records to advise. If I were you I would google in order to see what others have done and go from there.

Thanks @DJAlix, what abt changing the mapp can i do it my self please ?

Please explain what you mean by changing the map…
Ok so let me explain, i bought my car from Germany Europe and I'm living in Morocco Africa, so I have only Europe maps available in my navigation, so how can I change it , because cant change the country from the settings ...and I have only European places in the navigation, it doesn't recognize my country at all..

You will need to have a specialist activate the related licence and then install the needed maps data. This is not a job you can do yourself without special tools and knowledge.

Im just curious about the name of these tools and is it abt programming knowledge.

So i guess it’s a secret that i will not find in the internet ?
I may know a lot of things my friend but I cannot answer that question as 1) I don’t search the internet for things like this. I always make a point of working things out for myself so I fully understand what’s going on, and more importantly so I have the understanding and knowledge to fix things if and when it all goes wrong and 2) I have no idea how strong your “google-fu” is. What I do know is there is a strong possibility that you will render your MMI inoperable just like the stack of units I have in my workshop which I used to learn on. Beeps, needle sweeps and flashing lights are all things you can code with VCDS etc but as I have advised via PM, if what you need is that important to you then I would find a local specialist to complete the works In order to minimise the risk.
