S6 Water Pump (5.2) Engine Out job?

Been informed by the dealer that the water pump has a slight leak and will probably need replacing as well as seals etc.
Is this an engine out job or just complex and fiddly?
Dealer wanted £2k to do it

I don’t have the 5.2 (I have a 3.0TFSI C6) I’ve just had from Unit20 an Independent specialist - water pump, Thermostat, PCV valve and all seals etc done for £1200.

I imagine if I went to a dealer I’d have been £2000+ so I’d get a good independent to quote you.

Thanks. In the end the AC failed as well, so i bought a recon compressor, new condensor, pressure switch and receiver/drier and my mechanic sourced a new waterpump.
Total cost for all of that with him fitting it was around £1300
