My local Audi dealer in Whetstone, London said the guidelines around timing belt replacement changed in June this year. I was told that the new guidance was to only change the belt at 140k miles. They have now done away with 5 yr replacements. I was shocked because I had my car booked in for a timing belt change and they rang me with this new information.

Worrying, having the belt fail isn't without expensive consequences....it always has been preventative maintenance.

Good thing is we are all at liberty to change it before or anytime, it's not law ;)

140,000 miles :scared2::scared2::scared2:

I would be terrified every time I started it and every inch of the journey.

Personally I’ll stick with 40k / 5 year max for both the A1 & A3. Not cheap but gives me peace of mind at least

Just rang Watford Audi as my A5 is coming up to 5 years old and they said the same thing - 140k. It's only done 33k however I will definitely be changing it long before 140,000.
Reading some of the other forums this has been the policy in the rest of Europe for some time. Its only been Audi UK that have recommended every 5 years.
