Stone chip, 20 mins later 2 inch crack….. anyone has experience with auto glass, I’m going through insurance but auto glass have had to get authorised by insurance for a OEM, which the insurance knocked back unless I pay a extra £372 on top of £75 excess, bit of a joke since I’m insured through Audi themselves, anyway I wasn’t chancing a non OEM as I’ve heard bad reports on Micky mouse glass.
Cars got to go in to their depot to have it fitted and then cameras calibrated, anything I should look out for, or insist on when I’m there, I’ve read all the 1 star reviews which granted weren’t many as its a reputable firm but my **** is still gonna be putting in case anything gets scratched or damaged

I had very bad experience with Autoglass.
1 yr old RSQ3 SE, AG wanted to put some cheaper glass in, they claimed they could not get an Audi screen, I wanted the car to be returned to manufacturer's spec and I had heard of some of the through-the-glass sensor failures due to wrong glass and therefore demanded an OEM. I waited from early Feb to late May and no joy. My insurer was very good, NFU, (I was with Audi Ins before, I would not recommend them). Eventually took car to local Audi who fitted new windscreen in 2 days. I paid an excess of £75 as I had not gone with NFU's agent, ie AG. The whole bill was in excess of £1250 which NFU picked up (- my £75) without a murmur. I subsequently forced AG to come up with compensation for not being able to provide a windscreen in 4 months.

Don't use autoglass they are awful imho. Replaced my windscreen with I assume a cheap Chinese knock-off only for it to crack literally the next day. They then wanted to charge me the full price again to replace that piece of **** !

TX.

Hands are sort of tied with going through insurance, got to make the best out of a bad situation, I’ve paid the markup for OEM glass so that’s not a problem, I’ll check the glass before they touch the car to make sure it is OEM, it’s the thought of it getting fitted wrong or damage to the car while the jobs being done that worries me, s’pose all I can do is go over the car with a tooth comb before I drive away, I guess I’m gonna have to come across as a **** and be on top of them while the works being done

I used AutoGlass on my 8V RS3, no issues either.
Insisted on an Audi screen though, to which the installer was very thankful when he came, told me the 3rd party screens never seem to fit as well.

So you couldn’t tell it had new screen after it was done? It’s any damage to paint or dash I’m worried about, prob over thinking but when you have a 55k car it plays on your mind a bit, and did you have wipers replaced? They asked but dunno if it’s something I should do or it’s hard sell by them

Wipers ? Nope no need lol.

Well think of it this way……..

Someone’s going to have to do it aren’t they ? So why not a company who specialise in it…… it’s unfortunate yes but what can you do.

If your that bothered maybe tape up all the exposed paint work around the screen so an extra layer of protection while he works.

Getting a bonded in screen removed requires some effort if you are concerned speak to the fitter on the day, explain your concerns to him.

Couldn’t tell on my 8V it had been changed.

Just had mine done 2 mo the ago through national glass I think it was...3rd party screen but was identical, perfect fit,no damage...very happy with it

I'm in the US and I'm on my 2nd windshield already. both chips at 45 mph (70 kph), first one at 3k miles and now at 9k. And on my last Audi, 2013 S5, i had it for 6 years and went through 5 windshields. I thought it was maybe my area or driving but I've also had a 09 Honda accord with 120k miles and had the original windshield the entire time. I'm convinced Audi just uses really thin glass, or the angle they are set at is just really bad. Fair warning on these 8Y RS3s, its not just an alignment, cameras need calibration and car needs alignment after. Cost about $1,550 USD at the dealer each time.

Have you got HUD?

That would probably mean you need a genuine screen or you'll get burry HUD. At least this is the case for BMW.
