Audi 3.0TDI gen3 v6 engines (CRTE, CRTD etc) have been making some headlines regarding engine damage (bearings spinning etc).
There are some reports that oil pressure is causing this etc
I've tuned many of these cars now with stock oil pressure and not experienced an issue, apart from one car that had issues with the bottom end.
I've seen what most are doing with regards to oil pressure and I don't think they fully understand what the stock calibration is doing.
Im detailing below my understanding with software documents to hand.
Here is the stock oil pressure map:

Most will look at 3d view and think there is dip in the oil pressure (which there is J ) but this map does not consider load. There is another map for load which acts like a top up for oil pressure during cruise rpm. Audi done this for slightly better MPG I guess.
Load Vs Oil pressure

There are additional Oil pressure limiters in place which most tuners are missing and therefore the oil pressure is increases but not above the limiters.
(Not sharing these)
I’ve done some additional tests where the ECU control is disabled to see what oil pump can actually do before the oil pressure relief valve open.
The pump is very strong and at 110deg temp it was able to push 6.8 bar pressure.
I can increase all the limiters in place to make this happen:

Note the duty cycle still had plenty of head room.
If anyone wants this done you can send me your ECU or I can do it as part of my performance tuning.
