The last version of the Metro....:no::no:

It served its purpose - I past first time and it wasnt that bad (well in hindsight it was!)

I learned in my A3 :)

I bought it and just drove around a lot with my good friend Jon in the passenger seat until I thought I'd got the hang of it enough to take a test. I did have two 'proper' lessons but I decided the instructor was a bit of a joker (taught me more about squatters-rights than he did about driving), so just carried on driving around with my mate. Went in for the test(s) and passed first time :)

Regards,

Rob.

Ha ha you are all gonna laugh at this the first vehicle i drove was a range rover v8 lol... but done my test and lessons in a punto.....

dont laugh, but many moons ago it was a Nissan Sunny... Took all my lessons late in the evening and also past first time.

Started my lessons in a Clio. The thing could only go up slight hills in 2nd, 3rd at a push! Seemed to have no torque at all! So got myself a little Opel Corsa and took my test in that. Passed first time. Loved that little car!

I remember whilst looking for a driving intructor to teach me, I stumbled accross a number in my local paper and called it, my first question was what car is it, the lady on the other end told me it was a Skoda, I put the phone down sharpish! lol.
I ended with this chap who taught in a White D reg Metro, it was a 4speed gearbox model, and the gear lever wouldn't center itself, which I had to get use to. I finally got my test date, which was August 4th, then he told me he was getting a new car on August 1st and having dual controls put into it on the 2nd, so I had one lesson on the 3rd and the compulsary lesson prior to the test. Thankfully, he upgraded to a new facelift Metro with 5speed box and self centering gearbox, but it posed no problem and I passed first time, blessing the car in the process. :) :racer:

I learned in a 1.6 focus, seemed to have no power at all and just revved and revved, was a nice smooth drive though

Well

to start with I first drove a BMC Mothers pride van at about 6 yo

properly driving dads austin cambridge then started lessons in his vauxhall Viva 1256 then to a cortina mark 3 then a citroen GS

I Took my test in a metro. Then owned my own cars

My my first cars were a viva 1800 (went like stink) then to a mark 5 cortina (went like stink when i finished with it) then an MG Metro (Well I suppose I owned it as it was in the garage for more time than i drove it and it was 6 months old) Loved the handling. Hated the doors opening when going round corners and its thirst for oil.

See a pattern here.

Back in 1985, when I was 17, I learnt to drive in my Dads Audi 100 GL5E which at the time seemed like a rocket ship for 17 year old !

I learnt in a light blue metallic Pug 205 1.9 non-turbo diesel. It was totally bullet proof and wouldnt stall easily, but it just couldnt accelerate!! Used to have lesson after school as did many other kids. Most people used a different instructor who had a lovely poo-brown coloured 1.6 petrol Nissan Sunny hatchback. We used to have competitions who could do the best wheelspins out of the school gates and the Nissan would always be able to do this the best!!

After I passed my test i was insured on my dads new Renault 19 RT turbo diesel, looked like the 16v but had a 1.9TD engine and went like stink! Ended up buying it off him as my 2nd car and was a big step up from the crappy non-turbo Pug 205, loved that car!

Did my test in March '88. Instructor had a Nissan Micra but my folks had a yellow 1980 Mini Clubman estate as a second car for the dogs to go in. Great fun when you're 17.

Learnt to drive in a 205 diesel, day after passing my test I had to take a 2.9 Jag XJ6 back to the Jaguar factory in Coventry...scary difference in power, but good fun all the same..

Depends what you mean by learn to drive, really.
I was driving old cars (minis, datsuns, fiats) around local fields and roads for years before I was legally entitled to.
Even the local coppers turned a blind eye, provided we behaved ourselves.
My first official learner car was a Metro.

I dont actually remember what car my instructor had, so it must have sucked. I had a mini metro (D reg) which was a Jet Black edition... a whole 999cc ;)

nickynibbles pug 205 non turbos are 1.8 not 1.9 as believed i think the turbos where also 1.8. I had an n plate for two years before I got my audi. Still other than electrics it was bullet proof in a way I miss it. But not on 200 mile round trips. I was gonna keep it for my daughter to drive in until it developed a habit of letting water in and turning into a mobile swimming pool. never di find the leak.

Had my first car when i was 16 1/2... a 1.1 pug 205 haha what a beast.
And my instructor had a clio.
the pug failed MOT day before i passed my test which meant i passed then couldnt drive for 4 days:sorry:

Then got it back on the road and it lasted another 8 days!! haha. but was a wicked car to start in, makes you appreciate others lol.

Fair enough, honest mistake as couldnt actually remember! It was over 14 years ago in fairness!!

a 1977 Mk2 Escort
My first car learnt in it with my dad, and took my test in it,passed first time !!!! (I guess the examiner musta had a good session the night before:yes: )

I learnt to drive in my mums Nissan Almera, taught by my dad, with 1 instructor lesson near the end. passed first time
later on brought the car off my mum

An Austin Maxi 1750!! (anyone remember these? lol)
My instructor had a mk4 1.6LX escort

I started learning to drive the day of my 17th birthday. Practice runs in my mums Pea Green Mini Clubman, and proper lessons in a Toyota Corolla. Six weeks later I passed my test :racer: .

i learnt in a 306 tdi with full heated leather seats (think it was heated)

but after a few lessons i couldnt be bothered to learn, so after a few months my dad insured me on a vauxhall cavlier 1.8 and he taught me, and booked my test and passed 1st time init

Fiat Uno. I remember in one of my lessons, the moment the lights turned green on a 50mph road. I buried the gas pedal like there was no tomorrow. Then all I could hear was the instructor moaning "come'on!". And there's me saying I'm trying I'm trying! It was a laugh trying to get up to speed in that thing! It was just a heap.

Wasn't a black one with tinted windows by any chance?

I learnt in a Corsa 1.2 Twinport, absolute bucket of cr*p, if I parked it on a hill the handbrake didn't used to be able to take it. Slow as hell too!

Six weeks for me too, and I took my first lesson on my 17th birthday (having already practiced in a quiet caravan park during winter with the same instructor :) )

Passed on Tuesday, 14th June 1994 in a red L-reg Peugeot 306 XND, and also drove around in my Mum's grey E-reg Metro Studio 2. Never forget those details! Happy days ... :)

I learned in a rover 216 16v, went like stink but no power steering or abs and it use to torque steer like mad in 1st and 2nd but it served it purpose until my mini was on the road. My instructor had a corsa 1.2 which was extremely slow

Maxi's werent that bad compared to some of the cars to come out of BL, Leyand or whatever they called themselves then :)

Instructor had a nova and then changed half way through to a corsa, but bought a pug205xs to learn in myself. Loved that way 205:icon_thumright:

No, serious question dude, there use to be a pimped out Pug 306 in Coventry giving lessons. It was Black with tinted windows, slammed suspension and a whole boot of ICE, and the usual associated L plates and sign on the roof etc, and very popular with the local students for lessons.
