Got my hestitancy issues sorted that were coming up in this thread:

Turns out that I was getting a false reading on my dodgy ebay vag-com cable. A guy with the real deal did a thorough check and there were no faults. He said it could be that, as the car is remapped, the stock plugs were unable to take the extra induction. He suggested changing them to Bosch Super 4's, which he runs in his A4 1.8T and his TT 225 and...problem solved!!!
The car now pulls smoothly right through the range in any gear.
