Knock from front of car

My 96 A4 1.8T has developed a knock from the front suspension. It also drives like a bit of a greasy weasel and seems to follow it's own route and squirm over any road imperfections. I've got some new ARB rubbers as my brother noticed the old ones were worn. Any idea what else is worth lookiong over while I'm under it tomorrow night?

Got to drive to Rugby on Monday so want to make sure it's all safe

check your suspension arms, partically uppers for ball joint wear.

could be also track rod ends.
