Two Warning Lights at once!

Tonight both the Traction Control Light and ABS light came on together and stayed on. This is the second time it's happened in under a week. Obviously there's a sensor or similar go wrong and I need to get it on Vagcom. This won't be until the end of the week though.

Has anyone had this, what was the cause?

Are you getting the red caution sign on the dis as well ? I had this problem if you are.....Audi told me the ABS control module was knackered which cost me £850ish pounds fitted (specialist part) and that was slightly reduced because i expressed my feelings...Hopefully yours is a different problem, the fault became more and more frequent, since audi did the work everything has been fine !

This is a common fault, it's to do with the longditudinal and lateral acceleration sensors. There are other posts on the forum talking about it and how you find them and replace them. one is behind the glove box and the other at the steering column.

I was getting various codes while this fault was appearing and it did at one point show a fault which the garage traced back as being to do with the brake servo which i think is similar to what leggy is talking about. Garage said it would be in the £800 region to fix.

I would start with the sensors though and vagcom will be clear and say long sensor or something to that effect.

No issue with driving the car really, and I at times liked not having the ABS kick in.

Mine wasn't to do with the brake servo, it was the actual ABS unit....when i checked the code it was "No signal from abs control module".....The car was nice to drive tho as their was no traction control as well as abs !
Be good if yours is just a sensor cause it will save you a lot of cash...

ESP relies on ABS not the other way around. Therefore if something is wrong with the ABS both lights will come on to show both are disabled. Therefore it is probably an ABS problem.

As far as ABS goes i dont have much experience but i have read it could be a dirty abs sensor, fuses on top of the battery, break light switch etc

These lights came up on mine and all it was was the break light bulb was not seated properly. But can also be caused by the brake light swiitch (iirc above the pedal)

All worth a look before you pay lots of moneys for a fix.

Vag-com should help out anyway

The Mrs' A4 (2001) did exactly the same and it was also a break light bulb! - cost £1.50 to fix - check if your brake lights are working - combinations of warning lights indicate certain things..

The other weird one we had just before selling it was the Warning lamp for the brake system started coming on after cold start (only when cold). We took it to the local specialist and he tested the battery (car started perfectly and ran fine btw) - low cranking voltage when first starting caused the DIS to throw weird faults - VERY common VAG problem - changed the battery (cost £28 trade - instant fix!)

Thanks for all the info guys! No red warning lights Leggy so fingers crossed it isn't the ABS module, the ABS is disabled but I guess this is a safety feature of the car when it thinks there something up with it.

I'll check out the break lights and switch, giving them a good going over with contact cleaner. I changed over the lateral sensor a few months back, the ABS light didn't come on that time, only the traction light.

Where's the ABS sensor located?

sorry to be off topic, but you replaced the lateral sensor? can you tell me the part number as i have been searching with no exact part number found. And yes this will only put on the traction light as the ABS can function without ESP but not the other way around. appreciate your reply, Ben

ABS sensor is on hub/wheel somewhere but i dont know exactly, but i would like to know too for future ref

The VAGparts website says it's for the TT, but Audi confirmed it was the right one for my motor. Search under G200.

The lights came back on today and as I was going by the local Vag specialists, I got the codes read. Turned out to be the Longnitudinal Sensor, the partner to the lateral sensor I changed very recently. It does make you wonder if these things are designed to go wrong after a certain amount of time!

Anyway, as a side note, I was there getting a surging/lack of power issue sorted. They changed my N75 valve to the J type, My God what a difference! Crisp smooth acceleration virtually to the red line. A big thanks to Andy at PSI Tuning in Stoke for all his efforts, highly recommended!

Do you know where the Longnitudinal lives? Did it explicitly say this sensor.

After a bit of research these sensors seem to have the same P/N but i guess are mounted differently.

Also the Audi TT seems to have the same sensors

Yeah it defo said this one, the longnitudinal one is behind the glove box, they are the same p/n.
