engine noise

hi i have a b7 s4 avant and when i start it when from cold it makes a strange knocking/clunking noise for a few seconds is this normal? has anyone one else experienced this or know what it could be?

I expect it's your timing chain. S4's have a timing chain and not a belt as most cars do. I have heard quite a few owners report on this problem so I wouldn't worry to much.
