Another very worthwhile trip to AMD....after the problems I'd had with a misfire on the Revo Stage2+ map with stock intake system, the boost and fuelling had been adjusted to try and either cure it or at least run the engine a bit cooler, and we'd later cured the misfire with a Forge CAI.

What we hadn't done was to put the car back on the RR and reset the boost and fuelling.....

Now the car runs 365bhp and 360lbs of torque, and feels almost like a different car.

Thanks Shaun and everyone at AMD!

Wow nice one!!

Can we see a scan of the graph?

Sorry...that looks sort of crap......what's the best way of uploading a file here?

It tops out at 365bhp@5700rpm and 360lbs from 3000-4500rpm with over 340lbs from 2800-5900rpm.

Simply awesome mate! Many grins??

I haven't used the upload tool TBH. I just use Photobucket.

Ahhh....that explains it...I must get Photobucket.....the other forum I frequent has uploads enabled from all threads.

Quite a few grins on the way home plus wife complaining she feels sick....:puke2:

Also, mpg has gone to pot.....almost like my old Escort.

Added a few pics of that to the album as well.

http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/album.php?albumid=85

The thing in those pics was a bit more basic...2 seats,no leather at all...in fact no carpets either worth speaking of.
370bhp,Quaife diffs,ALS and water injection.

Tell her to get out then

The Escort in that album was another she hated.....owned it for 3yrs and she never sat in it....

That's nuts! I do have to thank my lucky stars that my missus loves cars and loves going fast in them :rockwoot:

Mine never has.....she hated the Escort, and could hear it coming from about a mile away.

She still doesn't know why the S3 whistles and squeaks....

Anyway...lots faster than it was,and plenty of fun.

Glad to hear you had a good service. I shall be frequenting AMD on Friday for REVO stage 1 :)

Shaun is a top guy.....very nice, knows what he's doing, and won't try and flog you something you don't need.

Welcome to the slippery slope......I went in for Revo Stage 2 and came away a few months later with 2+,HPFP,Miltek,CAI and a big smile.

Glad you had good service Alex. Sounds like your very pleased with the product with is the main thing. Ibet your car can half shift now, probably feels like a different car. Any more mods to come? Lol wish i had an S3
Enjoy the car

Very pleased, and given that the RS3 if it ever appears will be the thick end of £50k all in,I'll be very happy to keep this for a while.

Next will be the ARB and coil-overs....probably the KWv3's,and then if I still have any cash the idea of the ATP or BSH big turbo conversion does sound interesting, but there's always the issue of where to use that.....currently it's fast enough and just needs the ride sorting out.

If you do go down the Stage 2+ route,be sure to get the CAI done,as not doing that was the eventual cause of the misfire on mine....strangling the airflow at 6500rpm.

I need 365bhp.

Are you on stock clutch and DMF?

cheers
Paul

No...the (un)LUK(y) clutch went about 5000 miles ago...it had done quite well, but slowly started slipping,so it now has a Sachs clutch, but still with a DMF.

The general feeling is that the single mass variant is too harsh for road use,so I didn't get that.

The Sachs doesn't like being slipped and tends to smell a bit in heavy traffic,so it's not unlike the GpN clutches I had on my Sierra and Escort, but not quite as bad as the sintered bronze paddle clutch I tried, which was basically a switch...in or out.

Is that the uprated aftermarket Sachs clutch and DMF? as per Iggus car?
Is the pedal a lot heavier?

Long term I might go Stage 2(+) but my main reservation is the clutch & DMF, cost, and usability in rush hour traffic.

iirc Stage 2+ is around 2K (if you already have REVO Stage 1) but its at least the same again for the clutch & DMF.

Keep us posted on how you get on with the car, relaibility etc...:icon_thumright:

cheers

Hi Paul.....it's the Sachs and DMF as Iggu has already.

My OEM clutch just lasted a bit longer!

It is a bit heavier than the normal one,but nowhere near as bad as some race/competition clutches, and not as snappy either,so for road use with an uprated car,it's a good compromise.

Costs...IIRC...

I went straight for the Stage 2 which included the remap and the full Miltek exhaust,so that lot came to about £1500.

Stage 2+...I initially just had the HPFP added,so that was about £500,and then we had all the misfire problems at the top end, which eventually came down to the intake,so a Forge CAI and DV were added for about another £340.

The clutch was about £1400.

So...about £3700-3800 in all.

It's perfectly driveable around town if you treat the clutch with a bit of respect, and that's something my Escort wouldn't do easily,so it's a testament to how far ECUs have come over the last few years.

Driven gently it still does 33mpg,and the extra performance after changing the settings yesterday has given about 40bhp more(Shaun cut the boost and upped the fuelling when we were having problems so the power was cut right back).

Reliability right now shouldn't(I hope) be a problem,as there are a good number of other people running the same with no problems.

It's when you start running big turbo conversions that you can have serious problems with detonation and cylinder temperatures, and you also need to pay attention to uprated oil and water cooling.

As you know,a couple of people her have done that, and one has had problems with the car in his ownership, and the other(jonnyc) having sold it to someone and then bought it back, found the other guy had just ignored the maintenance.

My past experience with 2 litre engine running 400bhp is to have them built properly,by someone who's done it before and knows the problems, then look after it.....regular oil changes, synthetic every time, cool it down after a hrd run before switching off etc etc.

Super result Alex. Your car is now (I think) running the exact same hardware and software as mine so I know how you must be smiling !
My ARBs are getting fitted on Monday and while I'm there they're putting in some cooler Iridium spark plugs. These should allow me to run a little higher timing on Revo 2+.

I'm not after any more power - so no FMIC or BT conversions for me. A well set up Revo'd Stage 2+ S3 is (in my obviously biased opinion) one of the best cars out there. I take it on track and it can mix it with all the big boys easily. And everyday I take my two children to school in it and it behaves impeccably. Not many cars can do this. Against all expectations I reckon I'll keep this car another 3 years at least (it's 2 years old today !!).

Good to see you happy Alex after your recent glitches. AmD are the kings of the tuning game IMO.

I wouldnt have dreamed at throwing this type of cash at modding any car in the past, but its a car that even after 18months of ownership, Im still happy with.

Thats never happened before as Ive always started looking around after 12-18months. (Testament to the car I suppose).

But I reckon I will have this one for at least 3 years in total so the idea of having 360 bhp is is VERY tempting.

Maybe Auldreeekie should go Stage 2+ and then I can nip down the A1 and have a go in his:)

cheers

Very pleased with it thanks.

It's not quite as fast as either of my last two turbo cars, but that's probably a good thing!

I'll get the suspension and catch tank done soon(certainly the catch tank first),and then see how I feel about any other mods,as I'm sure I'll keep this car for a while.

it's been one of the best cars I've had on any level, and it's easy to drive fast,as well as just easy to live with....the Escort was both difficult to get the best out of,and plain difficult to live with a lot of the time.
