:uhm: Hi All ,

I'm new here and hope to get involved as much as I can. I have had a look through the archives to see if there is an existing thread, but I couldn't spot one. I hope I'm not starting something that has a long history somewhere else.....

I need to get all four of my standard S3 17"s refurbed. A friend of mine recommended Monty's Wheels near Slough becuase apparantly they do a very thorough job.

The one week service (drop off your wheels, have slave wheels fitted, go back a week later and get everything put back together) costs £72 per wheel, so £288 for the four.

I live in Bristol but will travel to get the job done well.

Does anyone have any suggestions or experience of either Monty's or any other company that I could trust?

Help would be greatly appreciated.

:blackrs4: 2001 standard car (except I'm currently struggling through changing broken Bose front speakers, OMG what a pain!)

The Wheel Specialists in Birmingham did mine, great job too. They can turn them around in a day too if you can leave your car there from early doors etc.

Stock S3 wheel is pretty straightforward, you should be able to get a reputable local painter or bodyshop to do them. if they are badly curbed, maybe need some alloy welding.

Thanks gusy, I'll give the Wheel Specialists a call.

Simch, the only reason I'm looking for full refurb is the company I use for tyres (and trust whole heartedly) have said that the alloy is degrading along the outside of the wheel, where the air void is between wheel and tyre.

They got one of their poor 'juniors' to use an angle grinder with a rough polishing pad to 'clean' this area of all four wheels (took him the best part of an hour) to get rid of the build up of degraded alloy.

So looks like a full-blown dip for me...

I'm going to get mine done by The Wheel Specialists that A3Tom recommended. He's had his done by them in a "steel" colour & they look fantastic (he's got pics on here somewhere). They do various colours for around £75/wheel & have a 25% off offer until the end of Oct (I have an email from the Nottingham branch offering me a discount if I book the refurb before the end of the month).

if you are sending them away, try BJV Engineering in Flaunden nr Hemmel Hemstead. £170 all in incl VAT for up to 18inch wiht tyres on and refitted after...

All powder coated, diamond cutting available, and plentu of coolurs OEM and not.
BJV are one of the few that do split rims and are top notch. Ask for Andy, the boss and an VAG nut.

Personally anything over £50 a corner is bit on the pricy side. Unless your alloys are in need of major overhaul.

Mine need doing at some point, but feel there's no need to do the inside of the alloy and would not be prepared to pay anymore than £30 each.

Hi just brought a S3 for the wife and the wheels need repaint due to corrosion on the alloy. I would advise on a good rub down back to bare metal then an etch prime then prime ,colour and clear coat.I done hers on a Saturday but am an aircraft painter by trade !

Thanks so much for all the information everyone. Loads of research to do now, the Wheel Specialists clearly getting a lot of love, but will also have to look into BJV as well, that looks like a great price.

Sadly shot blasting and aircraft painting skills are probably beyond me (and I don't have any kind of kit etc). But its great to hear the stories, you guys should take pics and show us all how it is done!

Mine do need a full dip so this kind of rules out the little tidy-up jobs.

Anyway, tomorrow I'll be making a few more calls and I'll let you know how I get on.

My repair saga continues, Dave Lever is sourcing me a new aerial (see other post), today my front speaker adapters arrived from Andy Mace, so just need to source speakers (see other post), some insurance-job body work is also required! Three coil packs in 6 weeks! But post a service, rear discs and pads, new coil packs and an extra check-over, my standard little 210 is running just great (but looking a bit tired still). Thanks again for all the help everyone, really appreciated.

Another vote for BJV. I just got a set of Avus wheels done for £140 although I had the tyres taken off before I gave them the wheels. They have done a fantastic job I had them done back to original colour. Because they powder coat the wheels instead of painting they should be more resilient to the bad weather and salt etc.

I searched around for quite a while before making the decision on who to use, check if the other companies will refurb the whole wheel or if they will just do the face. Lots of companies will only refurb the face and charge £50 a wheel compared to BJV that do the whole wheel for £35 go figure.

Their website is
http://www.wheelrefurbishing.co.uk/

The prices on their site where correct as of two weeks ago.

Costs a bit more than standard colours but worth it for sure :)

Tom what that colour called? I think i do actually love your alloys!
Mine need to be sorted after the GF marked 3 of them:crying:. Down by me its £230 for all four and any colour and they can do it in a day aswell but if you drop them later through the day wont get them back for 2days.
