Yes, another topic from me unfortunately! Sorry, just trying to sort out these niggly bits and get the car functioning properly.

My drivers door has a problem. Sometimes when i shut the door and lock it, it locks but the interior lights stay on (yes i've checked the light buttons lol) Also, when i get in the car and start it, i shut the door and the screen on my dash says the door is still open! It takes several shuts for the car to finally realise its closed and then all is well!

Any idea what this could be?

Thanks everyone.

Jay

Drivers door switch, common fault. If you search there is a "fix" that works for some and not others. Otherwise it's £90 for a door catch mechanism

Ah... im guessing either the door striker or catch is not aligned properly or the pin switch inclosed inside the door lock is sticking/ warn out.
The striker being out of line would result in the door either sitting out a little compaired to the rear quarter if you get me?? or in a little.
Mine wasnt quite as bad... the pin switch played up every now and then... resulting in the interia light flashing on and off when i locked the car. then the alarm would go off as it knew something wasnt right.
I cleaned mine and added a little wd40... works ok now.
Some people however have fitted a new mechanism in the door as the switch is part of the unit and isnt removable...

I had this issue mate and got a new door lock fitted, problem solved. I now have the same issue with the passenger side. I'll have a search for the fix link and post up if I find it.

Whey hey! love the response on this site! Good bunch aren't you! :icon_thumright:

Silly work internet won't let me access the links so will have a check when i get home. Are there pictures with what i have to do? i'm not that technical you see lol

Cheers everyone

There are more pictures than text and I'm going to have a crack at it myself tomorrow. It does look a fair bit fiddly though.

We are a good bunch as long as people dont ask stupid questions, use gramma in their posts, and use the search funtion before asking what remap is the best! :friends:

Goodness me! It looks hard to do! How about if i didn't want to rip my door apart and re-solder things? What part do i need to replace it to solve it?

lol I know what you mean mate. I'm a huge forum person and part of a few VW sites as i used to own a Lupo GTI and my brother used to have a Mk3 Ibiza Cupra. Good to be on here though with my S3!

I'm not sure of the part number mate I got an audi specialist to change the whole door lock on my driver door for about £90.

The only reason i'm thinking of having a go at it is because I'm taking the door card off tomorrow to investigate alarm issues.

STOP! Before spending any money, i had exactly the same problem untill a week ago. On this web site there is a very, very simple guide to bending the door sensor back into place without having to remove any part of the door trim at all. just takes a simple tool like a small allen key. when i find it i will post the link. It worked perfectly for me.

You are a leg end mate, I'll give that a go then strip the lock if it doesn't work.

I think my issue is with the soldering or the wiring though mate because I have alarm issues and speaker issues and when the passenger door is open the dis says both doors are open! Totally ********!

Cheers 1.8tplym!

Been trying to hook something onto it but it just won't grip! Trying to use a metal coat hanger stretched out and bent the end of it, but the tip of it just keeps gliding of the sensor everytime i try to push to the back to get the hooking point!

Any suggestions on what to use??

I couldnt get it to clip either. I just kept pulling at it with a small allen key. after about 2 minutes it must have bent enough because ever since, no door sensor fault! it felt like it kept springing back into its original position but i guess it doesnt have to bend to far?

Hmmmm, it seems as though everytime i try to grip something onto it i'm just flicking the thing down and it bounces back up again as it should do because my DIY hanger keeps slipping off lol. What a pain!:3sadwalk:

OK get the wire hanger, try and turn the end of it up a bit, so its L shaped, then just get in the gap and see if you can get it under the sensor, then give it a little tug, a little tip is that at the bottom of the door, there is a light, which when hitting the sensor correctly will go on and off accordingly, just try and give it a bit of a pull and then WD40 it, that should sort it.

Hope that helps.

Let us know how you get on, oh and dont bother with stripping the door etc, this doesnt need to be done.

Thanks for that! Was playing around with it couple of days ago but couldn't hook anything onto it. My DIY hook kept slipping off it but i think it may have tugged it out a little as it's been 2 days now and the door's been working fine! Fingers crossed! Will keep your advice in mind if it plays up again!

cool just put a bit of WD40 on it to lube it up

My investigation of the door lock didn't have a happy ending! I had the door card off and unplugged all the wires from it, as soon as I did this the door lock started working correctly!

I now know that the door sensor itself isn't the issue but either the wiring or the acualy lock soldering as in the guide above. When I went to strip the door lock it turned out that the only star socket that i needed was rounded off! I'm going to buy a new socket and have another go when I get time.

I have the same problem....going to try the quick fix as above but if not, im taking the plunge and going at it full tilt to fix the soldering.....Have you managed to sort it Westle? how difficult was it?

also, does anyone know that if i just disconnect the electrics to the door, it will still alarm ok? i would just have the lock as manual etc

I've only just got some new torque bits but I dont think i'm going to get time to do it on Saturday then i'm in Portugal till next Friday.

I'm praying that the soldering will fix all my problems but i'm being very optimistic!

I think your alarm will arm ok because the door will register as closed without having the door card connected. To be honest it only takes 5 mins to reconnect the door card and get it all on ok.

ok, i have just been trying to sort it with the quick fix mentioned above....unfortunately its a no goer.
thing is, when the door is closed, the dash display says it is closed. however, the puddle light is still on, and the interior light still flashes.
the light also flashes when i lock the car, which sets off the alarm after however many seconds....frustrating. this used to fix itself after a few slams of the door but now its totally broke and i cant seem to lock the car without arming the alarm (which will sound off if i do)
is there a way i can manually lock the car without setting the alarm? i know the passenger side button will just press down, but the drivers side wont. and if i use the key in the door to lock it, the alarm arms. :banghead:

I need to be able to leave it safely tonight before i can get to fixing it tomorrow with the door card out etc. (thats if my boss will let me have the time off at short notice) :sadlike:

Thats a bit of a pain mate. All I can think of is to disconnect your battery then manually lock the car with the key.

Sounds like you're in the same creak as me, and there's not a paddle to be seen :motz:

Also in other thread: having a crack at the quick fix tomorrow, fingers crossed! CHeers for the help guys :)
