Hey Guys I am going to get my 2001 s3 serviced. My mechanic told me to pic up the bits myself and he will do the work. Do you guys stick with genuine audi parts? What parts should I get for the service ?

Sorry lads I am getting the sump dropped and oil pick up cleaned. So getting oil done and plugs and air filter. Should I do the pollin filter as well.
The car is at 98,000 miles now?

Im getting my sump dropped on monday, thanks to matt for the heads up on that one, but sorry to matt for paying a specialist to do it for me :)

so is he going to clean your oil pickup and strainer or does he want you to buy new parts?

tbh if you get all the bits from audi then you cant really go wrong.

you may be able to get better/cheaper parts if you go to eurocarparts, but do you have the same parts chains as we have in the UK?

oil wise, a good 5w40 fully synth, i stick with VAG's own Quantum Platinum.

but sorry to matt for paying a specialist to do it for me :)
haha watch him like a hawk when he puts the gasket on the sump. if they go overkill with the gasket, the excess sealant can end up blocking things too!

out of curiosity, how much is the sump job costing you?

its a messy job for sure. prolly spend almost half that just on disposible gloves

anyway, back on topic! with the oil and oil filter, id use VAG only.

plugs, NGK, Denso, OE

all depends if you want to save those pennies or not

sorry to display such ignorance but...

is 5w40 a fully synth oil or is there a fully synthetic version??

tbh i dont think ive come across a 5w40 that isnt fully synth. VW's Quantum Platinum is definately fully synth though
