Where do i start?

Its been less than one full week of owning my beloved S3, And its broken!

Ive looked through the forum and cant believe hust how many people it has happened to!
The story goes;
I was driving down a small hill and pressed the clutch to change down a cog, when i heard a little 'ting'.
I didnt think nothing of it so carried on as you do! I pressed the clutch again to come to a stop when i **** myself because the clutch pedal hit the floor!

Luckily i was rolling so i slapped it into 3rd and limped it to the nearest petrol station which was a mile away.

Once i got to the garage i looked down to where the pedal should be and noticed 2 bits of plastic and a small peice of metal on the floor in the foot well.... I called Welly and the first thing i got was "welcome to owning an audi, oh by the way your clutch pedal has snapped!"

Is this what im now desting to spend my life as? Waiting for the recovery truck?

How many people has this happened to? I've heard its a common as hell thing.....

:racer:

Sorry to hear about the car mate.

Its happened to loads of people, including me, mine happened though when i was pulling out of a junction, now that was **** your pants tackle.

usually it doesnt come to recovery truck, but they do have a nak of breaking in the most redicilous ways

It scared the **** outta me cos i was only going down the gears, then the pedal hit the floor!

I've come from a Vauxhall Corsa C, and when the clutch slave cylinder went in that it cost me £700, with similar symptoms. All i thought was "****! not again!"

Then i found the White and Black plastic bits and the little metal hook sorta thingy! Luckily i was 5 miles max away from home...

So im guessing its a common thing? How mch roughly does it cost?

Cheers guys

About £30 quid for the parts if that mate.

Worst thing about it, is fitting the damn thing, its aright pain in the **** and i pain its a pain. Best to fit it yourself though as its not hard to do just fiddley and a pain lol.

Ha ha... Yeah i've started hearing the quotes! My nickname used to be Crasher, Its now Breaker
Even though its ****** me off, i still love it!

another stroud s3! gonna have to sell up and buy something a bit less common in these parts!
good luck with changing the clutch pedal, DIY job but very fiddly

Oh great, i have just bought mine, now im worried its gonna break already lol

Just some personal opinions on this, I've never had the misfortune of the clutch pedal snap on me, so maybe my thoughts on it doesn't hold much weight behind it. But what I have experience of is driving a number of different S3's and the clutch pedal varies so much in weight for each car! I do believe that a tired clutch would cause the clutch pedal to go heavy over time, so puts more stress on the clutch pedal itself. I've not had the problem myself, as I had a new clutch fitted, due to my gearbox destroying itself(another story), but mine is very light to use compared to other S3's I've driven.

Just my thoughts on it, so anyone else can add to my thoughts, please do.

Maybe it depends on user use, such as booting the clutch pedal down or just standard heavy right foot use by the user.

Without wanting to tempt fate (there, I've done it now!) I've not had this problem, but seeing as it seems to be a common occurrence I'm thinking about replacing the pedal before this happens to me. My 2003 S3 has done 75k miles so I guess it's only a matter of time.

Do you reckon this would be a good plan? I've heard that some people put a stronger weld on the pedal to avoid this, is that right? Might be worth replacing it and beefing up the new one before fitting it. What do you reckon?

The clutch on that S3 was quite light to be honest Jo, much lighter than mine, so I was baffled as to how or why it happened.

Pain in the bum though, but what can you do?

It's been towed to a mate's garage who are going to repair it. They're an VAG specialist which helps, he's done loads of them.

Luck of the draw then.

Problem now sorted id like to add.....

In total for the Clips (x3), new spring for the pedal and pedal itself with labour, came to...........£92.80.

Now really that aint bad due to the fact i was expecting a whopping great bill after being told the pedal needs replacing aswell! The Garage who done the work managesd to get the part and have it done in a day! Thats pretty ****** good if you ask me! They even plugged it in for me aswell and all it came back with was the SAI had a leak, nothing major!

Now i know where the car will be going for MOT and any little odd's and sod's that i can't be ***** to do!

Nah to be honest ive spoken to quite a few people and its a common fault... As jojo says, luck of the draw!
Tell you the truth i've only booted the car once and that was when i first had the keys, I drive everywhere for my job so if i get points or banned then i am well and truely ******!
