Extended Warranties, ££££!

Okay, i knew full-well that an audi (well, now mondial) warranty was expensive.

However, i didnt realise that other third party warranties had been catching them up...

I have just had 12 month quotes from

motoreasy - £720
Warranty direct - £606

now i thought that these guys are supposed to be cheaper?!?!

I did notice that they now ask questions like "do you want to use a franchised dealer" - uh oh, "does you car have 4x4", ******, "does you car have a turbocharger?"....ker-ching!

so they must be clocking on to the fact that they cost a bit.

If these quotes are anything to go by, i'm gonna renew my Audi warranty, as with that at least i get audi-on-call and fully loaded RAC cover too...

anyone got any thoughts on proven good warranty companies??

Well, WD have contacted me saying that the best they can offer for a 'gold' warranty is 550..

doesn't seem too bad. I was speaking to my local audi dealer too today, and they said they'd be fine with it. The main problem they have though, is getting authorisation to work on the car. They reckon that some cars can sit for 3 days before they get authorisation?

anyone had any nightmare stories?

Warranty Direct have just quoted me for an 01 S3 with "Franchised Dealer car Hire" for the sum of £564. I was also informed that if I paid for it on the drip they would not be able to increase my membership fee next year! Just one hang up though.............. I will have to pay 20% of the cost of parts and next year I believe it goes up to 33.33%. oh by the way it does not come with RAC cover or anything like that but they will pay recovery of £150 and the total amount that can be claimed in one year is capped at £5000. This is much better than Mondal who qouted something like over £1000 and a further £300 if I wanted to cover the Catalic converter!!!

looking further into WD though, they only cover labour charges upto their network maximum, which is currently £40 / hour.. that means that you have to pay the other 60 / hour yourself if you want to use a franchise dealer (most dealers are £100 / hour) ....

plus in their small print, you can't make a claim in the first 90 days!!!!! wtf?

Im not bothering with increased warranty to be honest. I'll be taking my chances at £800! Hell, its only £600 for a years warranty on a 911TT and a new engine for one of those babies is ~£20,000!

WTF are Audi/ Mondial on? I'm sure its aploy to try and get people buying new cars once the warranty expires.

My old Type-R civic was £120 to extend the 3yr warranty to 5yrs if done in year 1! Now thats trust in their own ability.

I Don't think Audi expect S3's to get to 4yrs without a major failure!

Newbie here to these warranty business things. But can anyone take out a warranty on there car no matter what age. As my car is getting on just a bit of piece of mind if anything was to go wrong.
I take it they have a run in period where you are not coverd for fualts within a certain period of taking out the cover?

The VAG specialist I use only charge £45 per hour. I think it's more a case of £100 per hour??? what planet are Audi on?

How about car in garage for 9 months while you take them to court over cambelt failure (cambelt within mileage limits for car). That was WD.
I will never take out warranty on anything, especially a car, as one thing that really worries me is the phrase "wear & tear". Which is basically anything on a car if they want to be difficult.
8 years now running my own car doing 25k miles pa and I calculate I'm £3.2k up on the deal @ £500 pa for warranty. Only ever had one major thing go wrong that would possibly be covered - steering rack.
Bad enough to have your car off the road let alone have to deal with an insurance company to get it fixed.
How do you think these guys make money?
Just like insurance they are banking on only having to pay out on a percentage of the claims, however £500 per year would only cover you for one fairly trivial problem given the price Audi charge for repairs, plus you've got to factor in some really big ones, so of course they will do whatever they can to weasel out of every claim.

Scum bags most of these warranty providers.

I remember having one of these aftermarket warranties some years ago.

The manufacturer of the car stipulated that the car should be serviced once a year or every 12,000 miles, after about 6 and half months of ownership of the vehicle the starer motor packed up. I tried to make a claim agaginst the warranty policy but in the small print of the warranty rules and regulations !!! it stated that the vehicle must be serviced every six months !!!!!!!!!!!!

So even though my car had a full dealer service history it wasnt adequate for the warranty insurers. I wrote to them demanding that they reimburse me for the costs of the new starter motor and attached a completed couty form and they coughed up pretty quickly.

Just pays to really read the small print and in my opinion I think they are more bother than they are worth.

If you have a car and its engine has done 50,000 miles and has been serviced according to the manufacturers schedule and it fails at four years old legally the manufacturer has an honus on them to repair the engine etc etc. As it was not fit for its purpose a modern car engine should last well past 100,000 miles. So legally much of your warranty does not expire after three years from new and anything in the terms of any warranty cannot superceed your statutory rights only add to them. I am not saying its easy to enforce but that is the law.
