Rear Diff removal

As above anyone done it?

I want to replace weeping seals,and dont fancy removing the springs dangling the subframe and struggling underneath it.

Id rather remove it and do it properly.

Sure you want to remove the entire rear differential? It's quite a lump when you see it on a workbench. Should be possible to do with rear driveshafts removed and keep in situ.

Think ill remove it,if i mess up or dont seat it right,i can see me removing it anyway.

Good luck with that. I'm half way through replacing the wishbones on an A2 and regretting even picking up a spanner.

I know that feeling ive replaced almost everything up front and still got a clunk

This was taken about 30 minutes ago. Wishbone and lower console. Not even going to attempt trying to remove it from the rubber bush. Local garage can change it over. Bought new Meyle kit.

I tried to find a link for more information about the B6 rear diff. There's a site I use call Audi DIY (state-side). Loads on the B5 model, but some of the links are now corrupt. If I find anything else I'll post a link.

Bit more information here, with a top-tip about ensuring the drive-shaft lines up with the differential flange, so you don't have issues with it being out of balance.
