Hi guys,

I've had my S3 almost exactly a year now, but am an absolute novice in comparison to most of the people on this site, so would really appreciate any advice you could give. It's a 2002 225 with 97k on the clock.

1. When I bought the car the dealer told me the colour was Moro blue - I've not seen anyone on here mention that colour on an S3, is it actually going to be Ming blue? (It's dark blue, but looks anywhere from black to purple in different light).

2. I'm taking it in for a service next week and am considering a re-map at some point in the future, is there anything that I should be checking/changing whilst the car is in to make sure it would be ready for a map?

3. My brakes are also squeaking a fair bit at the moment, so imagine the pads may need changing. I don't have bags of cash right now, but should I be looking at something other than the OEM ones if this is the case? (Do you have to declare changed pads to your insurer??)

4. If at some point in the future I had some money to spend, say £1000, how would you recommend I spend it? I've got damage to front and rear bumpers at the moment so would like to get that done, but that would probably be half the money. I've also got button wear on my stereo and climate control, which from what I can tell would cost me a fortune to fix (replacing whole parts). Other than that my wish list is - remap, aero wipers, cupra splitter, replacement steering wheel badge, miltek, alloy mirrors, then I would love some BBS, but know they'd be well outside of my budget. I'd also love to get it detailed, but just don't have the ability to maintain it at the moment.

5. Ok, so basically what I want is the car at the bottom of this thread, the dark blue one

Absolutely stunning in my opinion, can anyone tell me whether it's been lowered etc? I know those wheels will cost a fortune, and would the standard brake discs look ridiculous with them? I know I'm just dreaming...

6. I ripped my tax disc holder the other day so need to get a new one - what do people have in theirs? I want something really plain and discreet.

Sorry if I've bored you all to tears with this thread - I did warn you though!

1. sounds ming
2.change the stock DV to a Forge 007p and the spring needs to be yellow
3.ferodo ones are good and no declaration to insurer needed unless it robert mugabe carinsurance
4.new wheels can cost 500 and will make you proud
5.tis lowered and they look like bbs jobbies
6.I had a richbrook ally one but have binned it for just a plain clear vinyl one

my advice...I'm old, so listen to me.

Find yourself a good specialist garage who you can trust

Get it on a rolling road before you do anything

Brakes, get new discs and pads (I got yellow stuff), but dont go over the top at first. Get to the level of braking you are happy with.

Get your re-map, Revo in my opinion

Get the suspension sorted....it's taken my over 2 years to do mine and it has absolutely transformed the car

Check out www.polishedbliss.co.uk and look after the bodywork yourself. But be warned, you can become really anal about your bodywork and keeping it clean....like what I am

The uprated haldex controller is one of the best mods I have put on...you need to experience it to appreciate it

The only wheels that look good on the S3 are Sportecs....anything else is settling for second best

Take a lot of stuff you read on here with a pinch of salt, and the most important thing, enjoy her

Thanks for the info guys,

Sorry for the stupid questions, but what is a yellow spring, and where would I get one? rough price?

What does the uprated haldex actually do? Shift the balance away from the standard 90/10?

Trying not to spend too much right now, so would I be ok to just upgrade the front brake pads for the time being, dealing with discs at a later date?

is that what the awd is 90/10, thought it was more than that

Just had that in my head from a while back - I'm almost certainly wrong!

As long as your discs are ok, just do the pads first.
