The mechanic unscrewed the number plate then unclipped the grille at the bottom (top is held in by screws at the top under the lip of the bonnet) pulled it forward and wedged it with a block of wood reached up and managed to locate the catch and used a hook to slide open the bonnet latch.
I guess once you've done that (if it's possible for you) you can replace/charge the battery.
If you can get under the car and take off the under shield. Support the car on axle stands if you are going underneath.
Look for the starter motor and also a suitable ground on the body work. Use some booster cables and a remote battery of a decent output. Connect the positive booster cable to the heavy duty cable connection on the starter motor and the negative to a suitable ground on the bodywork. You may have to scratch off some paint to get a good connection if you cannot locate something like a subframe mount that is bolted directly to the bodywork. The doors should then open once more when you press the remote.
