8v Steering Wheel On 8p

Hey Guys

iam from germany hope you'll unterstand my question.
i bought a steering wheel from the 8v. now i want to install it in my 8p 04.
i know that the airbag system fits(single one).
now my question:
i dont need the functions of the steering wheel and also i dont need the wip function.
do i need more than just the steering wheel?any cable or adapter?
it looks like the adapter from the wheel fits into the old one from the car...am i wrong?

hope you unterstand.

greats from germany!

Okay, What you say is that you want LOWLINE buttons, not HIGHLINE buttons with Arrows on the top!

And i thought all Audi A3/S3 had 1 stage airbags? because i have 1 stage and Dan also got 1 stage.

You can see this on the yellow connector behind the ecu module, 2 pins is 1detonator and 4 pins is 2 detonators..
You maybe have wrong airbag harness?

Have you tried it with 8P0953549K and does it work?

here is a picture of my car (soon with navigaton plus)

Hey SvenGer! if you just one JUST the wheel, with no pads, no multifunction, just airbag. yes you just need to plug it.
BUT
the yellow plug casing is not the same shape. so you need to take off the pins of the 8v airbag, and put the old 8p yellow plastic to it so it can fit in your clockspring. beside that you dont need much more

yes, horn works perfectly

also, this is really important.
you must keep the cables in the same position in the new housing.
empty-empty-black-green-empty-empty (this are the airbag cables)
brown-blue-empty-empty-empty-empty (in your case because its jut horn and earth)

Thanks dude
ill post u a picture when i finaly finished:)

Any one know a cheap place to source the a4 multi flat bottom steering wheel with airbag ? Pity the a3 standard mfsw airbag can't be mounted into the a4 airbag cover as this would reduce the overall cost.

I bought my airbag from ebay, and I have found multiple unidentified websites from Russia that sell those. (Airbag 8V0880201)
I bought mine from this guy;
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Audi-A3-8V-...Parts_Accessories&hash=item46326a4bbb&vxp=mtr

the only bad thing with this is, that I don't know if the airbag working yet ;)

Neiller, I made those connections, you can buy them if you want and I have sent you a pm.

I did promise earlier that I would upload a video on the steering Wheel in action, so here is a short video.

Yes we can install those wheels on the 8P and have them working perfectly.
you would need to get the wheel that says mode on the top left like the one in the above video as the other types don't work

Yes you can install the steering wheels, but as posted above, the highline buttons are not compatible at all.
if you use the lowline buttons work like a charm.

so instead of buying the A3/S3 8v steering wheel + lowline buttons. you can get the A4/S4 8k (b8.5) steering wheel since that model uses exactly the buttons needed to work properly o the 8P

Thanks, Are all the low line buttons functional and what additions do they provide over the standard 8p flat bottom steering wheel?

The Nav button doesn't do anything, the mode button will work the factory bluetooth if you have it installed. the speech button is as normal so if it worked before it will carry on working.
There isnt anything majorly different over the older flat bottom except that its a newer design and a thicker wheel

This upgrade looks awesome!

Just got my wheel and bag..

Now searching for controller and ring. What prices should I expect to pay for them?

I guess it's £300+ from the dealer!

Also I have a friend that's going to try code it for me - Do any of you have any info that would help out?

Mines a 2005 A3 TDI 140 S Line, don't have a clue what module and ring I have so going to check at the weekend.

Thanks in advance for any help I receive :)

i got my clockspring + module + cruise control (it was a WIN) for 160€ on ebay
the coding is really simple, the same steps as any other MFSW

edit: if you got clocksping ending in D and module ending in F or K (i think F according to the year of your car), you're good to go

Hey thanks for the help!

My car doesn't currently have any buttons on the wheel.

Can you confirm the part numbers of the items available?

How much would you charge to post?

Hi guys. Just received new wheel to my 2012 Audi A3 8P sportback. What would i have to do to get it work and all?
Do i need any extra parts?

Thats not really a good news :-(
Not too sure but I think that is an 8v steering wheel.Still might be possible to fit ask NHN for advise. He seems to be 'D Man' for advise:racer:

Everything you ask is in this thread, and the Wheel you have will fit but the buttons wont work, read the thread.

Lol.

Exactly what i said... it won't work. fitting it is dead simple but getting the buttons to work is what i thought was the end game no?

mate like you said your not sure!
NHN won't be able to get this to work... i should know as we both do the same retrofits and this just doesn't work. you must be new around here

Yeah, and you can change the buttons on the wheel that's why I told @Chestermix to read the thread. Your answer was not crystal clear, I'm sry.

The highline buttons don't have support from the computer, it's to new.

if you buy the other buttons, the one that says MODE on the left top, it will work without any issues

Sorry Did I 'touch a nerve ' in suggesting NHN might be able to help him???
No I am not new to this forum been a member on the A3 forum since 2012 and was a member on the A4 forum a few years before that..

no not touch a nerve mate, its just that it sounded like you were trying to say i don't know what I'm talking about and nigel is the only guy that does?

Sorry didn't mean to offend mate....
NHN was the first person that came to my head as for things to do with retrofits.
Just trying to offer friendly advise.Thats what this forum is about isn't it?

no offence taken, just be mindful that there are loads of other people here that know what they are talking about and putting one person against another is not friendly.
but yeah we are all here to help, so back to the steering wheel... the 2 buttons on the top left and the star on the right side just won't work on an 8P.
also if it is actually out of an 8V it will also come with a single stage airbag which again won't work with the 8Ps with dual stage airbags (all from 2005 - 2012)

i think he actually meant that he knew what he was talking about, more then starting a competition between himself and NHN.

but yeah those buttons are not compatible cuz they are LIN2.0 which is a different language.

edit: i think i took a couple more seconds to reply this haha

and here comes the double post of the day.

Hey @Ash187 i'm upgrading from my sportback 2010 to an 2012 S3, and i'm planning to take this wheel with me.
The S3 is 2 doors, so i am confused if the airbag is single or dual stage.

in my case i've bought both airbags (single from the 8V and dual from 8K)

Thanks lads for all your help. It seems that better is to get the new wheel and airbag :(
I should check that before i bought the wheel.
Thank anyway

been there, done that haha, i've bought the wheel, two airbags, the other buttons, a highline module (because my car originally didnt have the buttons) so yeah... apparently i was the first one asking for this mod and no one knew about it.

So in my conclusion, its easier to just get the 8K steering wheel, because it is the same, just with lowline buttons (and if your car is sportback, the airbag from 8K is also dual stage)

If its an 8P A3 then its always going to be a dual stage system in the car.
The 8K airbag will work but will need a few pins changed over.
The single stage wheel is only good for the really old cars or the new ones. the mk3 TT now has a single stage airbag as does the A1 and the A3.

check out this diagram of pins i made to clear myself, maybe it helps for someone else changing 8K for 8P
sorry if it is in spanish but i might help someone else

edit: i'm not 100% about which is which between white and purple (multifunction and paddle shift)
