Got myself a BiTurbo! :)

How do you know if your car has the boot feature?

Earlier in the thread, I posted up a pic with the list of optional extras, the first one was hands free boot opening system.

That's strange about the gearbox I would have thought it would know the engine RPM and be mapped to change at the red line if it's in sports mode. Will it change up if you lift the accelerator slightly as this would reduce the available torque.
Hope your Mrs knows about this as it could be embarrasing / dangerous if attempting an overtake and you end up not accelerating as you should.

It does change up eventually Karl, just hangs on for a sec or 2, a bit of a lift off works too, using the manual shift is the best solution. Not an issue with the missus, I only ever Rev it out in sport mode, she only drives it in efficiency mode. Just trying to find the best way to extract the maximum performance out of it, ready for our TDI shootouts! Haha

Activated the remote bootlid closure, doubt I'd ever use it, you need to keep your finger on the remote button, and it stops midway when you let go, so some safety has gone into this function, it's nice to know it's there though.

Right, just an update on this, you can set it to close the boot lid with just one click of the remote after all. I set it to 'touch' which means the button must be pressed down. But if you switch it to 'tap', then that's the one touch setting.

Always used one key between me and the missus, and we lock the spare on away. She hardly drives it anyways, so probs not worth setting it up. Cheers. :)

So going through the optional extras codes off the label on the front page of my service book using the decoder linked below.

http://igorweb.org/equidec/Default.aspx

It appears my car also has the S-Line Sports Suspension option(1BX code, no cost option when new). That's a bonus for me, saves me lowering it myself at a later date. It's only 10mm over the standard S-Line setup, but it sits nice for a barge! lol :)

yes but every time I think about checking it my wife has the car with the book lol need to get round to checking them :)

I've also booked my A6 in for an exterior paint correction/detail and winter protection on the 14th from a fellow ASN member. Should look amazing afterwards. :)
So the 14th was cancelled due to poor weather! Re-booked for today, so she's getting paint detailed as I type!

Full report to follow once she's done and I have the pics. :)

Getting the car detailed.

Early start for our very own @FranA3 of www.fmdetailing.co.uk, he made the trek to my place in Solihull from Cardiff to do this detail.

Firstly, you need a dirty car. I've actually not washed the car since I've owned it, the dealer gave it a quick mini valet when I took it in for just an oil change. It's not even that dirty to be honest.

Despite reports of dry weather on 2 different weather apps, the rain decide to join the party! But my fellow detailer came prepared with a Gazebo on standby. :)

It started to rain heavy as he was finishing, so the pics of the finished article on the day came out poor.
But I thought I'd make use of my new iPhone camera the next day when it was dry.

Looks amazing to how it was before! The car had covered 98k miles in it's 3 years life, so the bodywork has a few dinks and blemishes, but you need to be up close to see these. The reflections off the bonnet during the day, whilst driving, makes it all worth it. I'm very happy! :)

Those front brake calipers need some treatment. I believe the rusty parts are removeable covers. A bit of paint and some nice Transfers maybe quattro logo or the Audi rings. Very clean unfortunately this time of the year it's not likely to stop like that for long :(

Yup, I can see through the wheels that those plates can screw off, may take them off and hammerite them black. Unsure of logo's though, Audi rings aye?

I'm sure the paint will still be fine come spring. I wanted the winter protection on it.

Thanks for the plug jojo :) was a pleasure to work on your A6, shame about the weather but it all turned out well in the end :) :)

So attempt number 2 of fitting the RS6 grill, since I know how to take the bumper off now, it took me less than 30 minutes to take it completely off the car!

Starting with the standard look.
standardgrill_zps3dgyxvfg.jpg

With the bumper off, I had to make the crash bar black, as you can see it through the honeycomb RS6 grill. My original plan was to spray it matt black, my attempts to take the crash bar off proved a mission, and I did not want to mask over the area to spray it in situ!

Decided to use a whole roll of black insulation tape instead! lol, hope it doesn't peel off anytime soon! :D

The area between the intercooler and condenser seems to be a leaf trap! I don't even know how it got into there?! Hands are too big to reach down to grab it, I removed a small percentage of it and left it, maybe need to drop the undertray for better access after winter?

Removing the original Grill from the bumper is the tricky bit I got stuck on the first time round, the guides says 6 torx screws, but in actual fact, there's 10 of them! All reused for the replacement RS6 grill. The original grill has around 17 clips all the way round, and the easiest way is to start from along the top corner and work your way across, before tackling the bottom. It's easier with 2 pair of hands here, but I just about managed it with loads of flat blade screwdrivers!

New Grill finally fitted onto bumper and fitted onto car, looks amazing with no numberplate! :hubbahubba:

Yes, i did it sat on the ground with wheels on. The headlamps do not need to be removed, but you may need to steer your wheels inwards, just for viewing, unless you have a mirror or an eyes of a hawk! Lol

A quick guide off the top of my head. Under front bumper is 5-7 torx screws, near the front, easily reachable lying on your back. 3xtorx screw on each side of the wheel arch liner, the arch liners are soft, so you just pull them back, theres one longer torx screw that goes upwards on the end of the bumper into the wing. Now for the tricky bolt, a 10mm one I think it was? that bolts the bumper to the wing, the curved bit just below the headlamp. You will need a couple of extensions on a ratchet, the bolt is at an angle, so you need to see it to undo.
From the top, pop your bonnet, unto the 2 Audi logo'd push clips, use a flat blade screwdriver to lever the center bits out, then the larger part of the plastic clip pulls out, now remove the large plastic cover, the front of it is just clipped into place, just dig your fingers in between the cover and bumper, and it will just pop off and slides forwards to get out. Once this cover is off, undo two black cross head screws by the headlamps on eitherside. The screws go into a metal clip that holds the bumper onto the slampanel, watch you don't lose these clips whilst removing the bumper.
Bumper removal, stick something under bumper to stop it from dropping/touching the ground. Start with passenger side, as the washerjet pipe is on that side. A coloured plastic clip holds the pipe together, it will fire off when you undo it, don't lose this, its usuall brightly coloured, yellow/pink/blue? The washer fluid will drop once you undo this, I had access to hose clamps to stop the fluid dropping. Now pop the other side off, the parking sensor wiring loom connector is this side. Now the bumper will just be held by the black clips I mentioned esrlier. This part requires a firm yank to pull the bumper off, remember to catch the clips if they drop off.

The Grill is held on by 10 torx screws, and around 17 clips. Work your way from the top, then down each side once you have removed the torx screws. 2 pairs of hands makes this easier, or if you're a loner, have around 5 small flat blade screw drivers! lol The parking sensors are just pushed in, and there are adaptors on the end of them, you need to remove these for them to fit the RS6 grill. The wiring will need to be undone a little, as the sensors sit an inch or 2 above the S-Line positions. The function of them works perfectly in the higher position. Putting the RS6 grill on, make sure you put the bottom end in first. There's a plastic lip thing, this need to go over the lower bumper before you push the top bit in, then it all just clips together, and bolts back up using all 10 torx screws. You need to decide at this point whether you want to have the black Audi rings, or transfer the chrome one from your old grill? The supplied black one is of poor quality, and needs a bit of trimming to fit, but once it's on, you can't see how cheap it is.

Then refit is the reverse of the take off procedure above.

Please note, these fitting instructions if for the aftermarket grill. A genuine RS6 grill requires a slight mod of the mounting holes to make it fit.

Cheers.

Great , Thanks a lot for that Jojo... Been holding off to see what like a Job It was, Sounds Ok... Will now need to wait till the Weather Warms up a bit..

Nice motor :)

How much was the grill and where did you get it from if you don't mind me asking :)

Thanks :)
I paid £225 off ebay, they are a bit cheaper now, I just had a look. Just search 'RS6 Grill' on ebay, and scroll down. They do a chrome version, and a black version, which is the one I went for.

Aaaargh! The other half kerbed one of the front alloys today in the snow! Which means I might be getting my 20" alloys sooner than later! lol
Still undecided if I should go the OEM route or the after market route? I do like the rotors style, but they are getting boring. Looking on ebay, the designs of 20" alloys seems very 'spokey', I'm after something a bit more subtle.

Congrats Joe. A milestone indeed! My C6 has just done the same a few weeks ago but I didn't get to see it happen ... 101k now.

What snow have you had recently ?. think we got about 10 minutes worth of decent snow about 5mm worth. Will those be winter tyres on the 20's as fitting bigger wheels with smaller side wall tyres will only make it worse. I would leave the 20's till summer and put some winter tyres on the 19's after you have fixed them up.
was your wife driving at 50mph when she took that picture, no wonder she managed to hit a kerb .

It's just a minor nik. The 19s have a 10mm rim protector, and she still managed to clip it! Urgh. Was a quite road in Stratford, so the 1inch of snow was still there! :(

Booked my car for a pair of rear tyres tomorrow. I tried to buy them earlier today, but no one would match their online price over the counter!! You have to make a booking and pay up in full online to get the online price. Who came up with this stupid system?

Anyways, having visited a couple of tyre places, I headed over to Wheelmania to see what 20" options they had? Not much choice to my tastes unfortunately... but it didn't stop them test fitting a set of rims onto my car for some pics anyways.

They tried to fit a 10" on the front to start with! haha No chance, it wouldn't clear the strut! So we went with a staggered set instead. Alloys are ManiaRacing 'Mayfair' alloys in 20x8.5 ET40 with a 5mm spacer to clear the front brake calipers front, and 20x10s on the rear. The tyre sizes are not correct for my car neither, but I think they was after fitment data whilst I was there.

Not really what I was after, but the 10" rear really look amazing fitted, the pics doesn't do it justice. Shame it had to be the 8.5s on the front with the flat face. The concave rears are just sexy! Needed the correct tyres to fill the arches though, these look a bit lost here.

So trundling along the A34 this morning in the rain, a stone was flicked up from a car traveling the other direction, and it was visible to my eyes, with noway to avoid it, and connected with my front bumper! Urgh New visible stone chip in view now!

Damm unlucky, It could have hit half an inch to the right then you have just been able to spray the cover for the headlight washer.

Evening all, nothing to report as such, car is running good, but I'm not using it that much, as it's a beast to park for the school run.

I'm looking at 20" wheels, I'm just not sure which ones? Do I go aftermarket or eom?

Been also thinking about changing the look of the rear end? I thought about an RS6 diffuser and oval tailpipes, but I need to downgrade to a normal rear bumper to do this mod, and that works out to be a bit more than I'm willing to spend, so maybe a change of tailpipes instead? But my research tells me the active exhaust speaker is part of the back box, so it may not be possible?

Could you not just get new tips put on?

Just been cleaning up my tips and looking at them, they look they are literally just pushed onto the back box?? Not sure if yours look similar

Below is what my back box looks like on one side, not had a look at my own, it's a pic found online. Unsure how the tailpipes are attached?

$_57.JPG

My tips look like they are a sleeve which go over the pipe exiting from the back box

Do you have a specialist exhaust place near you that could knock something up? :)
Yup, I could ask a custom exhaust specialist. My only fear is do I want to generate so much heat so close to the active speaker if it needs welding into place? I know the exhaust gets hot anyways. lol
