No RS3 orders being taken

Er it doesn't say next year indeed it doesn't say when at all:

"Audi's technical program manager Stephan Reil confirmed to Drive that the second generation of the super-light and super-loud five-cylinder will find its way into other quattro GmbH products."

TX.
Agreed. Although I'd be surprised if it's 2018 before they find another car to put the new engine in. However, this is Audi and they don't seem to rush themselves...

Predictable move - Not logical for a OEM to produce two different 2.5L engines in the same region, especially with a relatively low take rate. They don't care about keeping the TT-RS engine exclusive, they care about cost / complexity / tooling / shipping etc.

Possibly they move the old (current, sorry :X) 2.5L tooling to NA for the RS3 saloon to use, but that's just a guess.

Historically though @Tom_L the TTRS has enjoyed a power advantage over the RS3, how will they do that if both have the same new engine? As you state above the rumour is they may keep the current engine in the RS3 and even in the saloon version due next year. The quote above may apply to a new model RS3 (next one after the 8V) due out in a few years time?

That's not quite correct. The TTRS and RS3 both had the same 335bhp engine. Audi then did the TTRS Plus in addition towards the end with a tweak to 355bhp.

RS4 and RS5 had the same engine.
RS6 and RS7 too IIRC.
Audi have a habit of sharing engines.
TTRS and RS3 makes perfect sense since they share the Haldex platform.

Totally. When the update arrives next year it will have the same TTRS engine to 'beat' the Mercedes CLA45. The SB will also have that engine to 'beat' the A45 and claim the fastest hatch in the world.

Just my opinion. Hopefully he'll have no issues and as you say it will put a big smile on his face.

Without going into details I have struck a deal with Audi and Im more than happy. If an RS cant take a hammering then it not worth even looking at, so let see how it pans out and if it remains reliable...

Had to say goodbye to my RS4 B8 today but time to move on and thats what I've done with no regrets or second thoughts.

Watch this space...

I see exactly where you're coming from, but "historically" being the key word there. With PCM/ECM's these days same engine size =/= same engine power. I know of a vehicle line, for example, that has the same engine but 3 different factory power levels.

For their EU production, they have just invested in tooling and building a new 2.5L, a low take engine as it is. It is not logical for them to produce the old and new 2.5L engine at the same time, for the same plant/region. It's extra stock, doubled engine complexity, extra work on the line to build two different engines etc etc. I just don't see Audi saying, screw it, lets keep the TT-RS engine exclusive for a bit.

It is the halo model though. Just have to wait and see ;)

Had to be a possibility it will appear on the next RS3 .... whenever that is in the UK.

6 months into my RS3 ownership & can easily see me ordering another in 2 years, so it would be cool if a newer more powerful engine is put in the new model.

As the current engines are clocking in at near 400bhp anyway, can't see the new 'official' increased BHP being that noticeable though, but who knows :)

I'm with you there mate. I don't know where you would go car wise after owning one of these.

I would like to get an RS3 next year. In the form of Sportback or Saloon, what ever fits the bill and pocket.

I love the sound of the current (unable to order) RS3, the 5 pot, the pops and crackles, everything.

Having watched the following video of the new TTRS, I hope they throw a little more fuel in on the over run and downshift for the new RS3 next year, compared to this TTRS - WHERE'S THE CRACKLES AND POPS!?

My dealer told me today, he predicts there will be a new Sportback and a Saloon. If it sounds as good as the current RS3, with 400ps, I will be placing an order! If it doesn't, I will seriously consider an approved one as I hate the fine tuned downshift noise of my S3... Very sewing machine like.

He does some good videos and his videos of the RS3 were equally as grin inducing for him :)

TTRS sounds pretty good to me ... & it is how these engines make you feel - the power is astonishing in a TT / hatch and the sound really transforms the whole experience to another level .... the 2.5 litre 5 cylinder engine really is a jewel in audis line up.

I think that video has inspired me to go out to my car now and just hear it again .... you just never tire of listening to it :sunglasses:

Great video of what is a fantastic car with loads of new tech and man do I love that virtual cockpit which I will be getting on the RS3. I'm hoping they will also have the same steering wheel as the TTRS & R8. Bring on 2017

I'm sure when it arrives it will be a great package as the current mode is. I only fear for the price, people on here baulking at near £48/9 k , I reckon that a decent specced FL will easily push it beyond 50.

RS3 saloon from £47k basic but again you'll get a little more standard kit over and above the S3 saloon, Audi are so predictable that way

Considering that the current SB was 40k basic, that's a fair hike for a different cockpit and engine. Believe me, once you start adding your options, as every owner on here will tell you, you've spent another 5/6k. Easy as that.

TTS £41,600,ttrs £51,800,S3 saloon including metallic paint £37000,ergo RS3 saloon £47000

Yep same here......... except I kinda added a few more bits and bobs......... and oooooh that would be nice............ and oh yes must have one of those.... and before you know it, I had added just under 10.5k of extras on top of list!

Audi said that on average, buyers spend around 20% for options on top of list price.

Now at the moment I am enjoying having all the bells and whistles, but come trade in time......... oooooooh that is not going to be so good!

Well it will be worth it once I have it on my driveway though

Sounds more S3 than RS3 that. Audi can keep its TTRS, thank you very much - leave your TT's for the ladies, current RS3 is a mans car!

Anyway, RS3 isn't a mans car.
RS6 is where the manly men land in the Audi range.

TBH Jassy I think the TTRS is a decent machine. Just not for me. It's just those TDI's I'm not so keen on. Proper hairdresser mobile. You know me, pinch of salt and all that. Let me know how the test goes:kissingsmiling:

Think you may be right Jassy, tried to get myself on the list for an extended test drive in one but was told there may be a long wait.
When I asked how long, he replied - probably January!

You do, and one day you might be lucky enough to get behind the wheel of one of these awesome machines.

So you are rich and a super-hero?
You're certainly my hero, but surely more like Batman than Superman.
Believe it or not, I am Bruce Wayne.

I really hope that people get the car that they keep repeatedly going on about in here. As many of us know, it is a different thing to talking the talk and walking the walk. I'm just so glad I'm walking the walk right now. The price of the rumoured FL no matter what anyone says right now will be a real sticking point with some people. I think I got a lot of car for my buck, albeit 45k ish rather than 49k list.
