Have I got the colour wrong and is it too late?

My new S3 is on the way, ordered around 4 weeks ago and starts production on the 14th Nov. Currently in Tango Red, fear though should have chosen Navarra Blue!

Do you think I can still change me mind?

Does your "yourAudi" portal show that your build date WILL or IS DUE to begin? If it's the former then it's "locked in" to it's build slot.

If it's the latter you might still be able to amend the build. I amended mine to have Virtual Cockpit after the order, but it wasn't as far in as 4 weeks.

Would get on the phone straight away to the dealer mate and ask - you may just squeeze it in with the build week being 3 weeks away!

I changed from Navarra blue to Tango Red, no regrets:sunglasses:

I think the order gets locked 3 weeks before build date, so you probably need to act quickly.

Navarra is a beautiful colour but quite dark. I am slightly worried about mine in the long term for showing swirl marks.

When I looked at Tango Red in the showroom, I honestly couldn't see the metallic flake in it, but it's a bright rich colour.

Red/blue are obviously polar opposites so you really would be switching from one extreme to the other!

Don't worry about swirl marks, just wash it properly ;)

If you are certain you want to change, then get on the phone ASAP.

Colour is a personal choice. Though there are certain practical things I consider. Statistically red cars are the most expensive to insure. Though is nothing to do with the colour. Guess what the most popular colour of sports car and sporty models is?

What colour of vehicle does the post man use? What colour are fire engines? Red is a high contrast colour and stands out during daylight. I personally would never have a dark green car, because they are the colour of hedges. I want my car to be seen. So red is a good choice as a safe colour during daylight.

... gotta go... more on this later...

I've actually seen a few Navarra on the road now and the colour just doesn't do it for me at all, I was sick of seeing Sepang S3s on the road as pretty much every one you seen was this colour however it is much nicer than navarra

Washed it this morning, snow foam and 2 buckets. Have to say, it does look amazing when clean! :)

For dark cars = Poorboys Black Hole, it's great stuff, this is when I used it on mine a while back:

it's only a filler though, so will not permanently remove swirls/scratches etc.

Thanks all, although not sure am any nearer choosing!

Guess my only hesitation about the red is my current Golf GTD is red, love the colour on that and so went red again for the S3. Now though think a change could be nice, but also suspect most will not notice I have changed car, less chances to show it off:grimacing::grimacing::grimacing:

Without wishing to sound totally indecisive what about Panther Black?

Perhaps, but black cars look the best. A red s3 would look fantastic though.

I agree that black hole is excellent.

I've had two black cars, plus my wife had a black mini. Never again. Love detailing cars but my OCD went into the stratosphere on them. It'll be silvers, whites or very light blues for me for the foreseeable future.
Don't get me wrong, you'll not find a nicer colour when it's in tip top condition but the second you dry it off it's dirty again!
Go with Floret Silver, you'll not regret it.

Tbh I think all the Audi paints are great. Other than black (and this applies to most marques). Because of the EU and it's crusade on thinners, black paint just swirls and scratches to oblivion and it makes the car look awful. Not to mention, as soon as you wash it, within 5 minutes it's covered in dust/tree sap/salt grit/other typical English road crap.

Exactly. My old A3 was metallic black. I think it still gives me nightmares now. White ftw.

@S32B - Glazes are great but don't last on their own unfortunately :(

Another couple of decent products that do a similar job are Auto Finesse Tripple & Chemical Guys Black Light
The Tripple is brilliant VFM from Polished Bliss IMO
http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/auto-finesse-tripple.html

The Black Light is good as it can be topped off with the their Hybrid V07 sealant
http://www.chemicalguysuk.com/Chemical_Guys_Blacklight_Radiant_Finish_p/blklgt.htm

I've used both of these & still have them on my shelf for those 'moments' lol

Quite subjective this car Detailing malarchy lol

Yeah, I used to spend around 6 hours doing mine before on the A3.

Snowfoam -> 2 Bucket -> Chemical Guys Shampoo -> Glaze -> Wax

Now, I don't have any time for that, so the S3 gets twice yearly hydrophobic ceramic coating, and that's enough for me, just to satisfy it looking somewhat alright most of the time.

Right back on topic all you Men in Black, the OP l cancelled a order that had been locked....because l wanted a Pano-Roof....my first order was without,so calm down and tell them even if your orders locked that you have changed your mind and want a different colour...simple as that....you have only paid a deposit.............there will be loads of Navarra blue cars in stock or on there way from Deutschland

Definitely Navarra.

Tango red, being a metallic paint, is way too flat. There is almost no flake.

I've had four black cars in a row, love the look of them and with care you can keep the finish ;) If mine ever got bad I'd buy a rotary polisher and correct the finish. I just find most of the other colours quite flat..... each to their own I guess.

I think Tango Red looks nice. Much better than Brilliant and Milano Red. It looks like a deep red like Piedmont Red. Where as the previous red colors look like they would fade easily as the car age.

Navaro Blue looks just like Scuba Blue. Too damn dark. I don't get why Audi can't provide the Sepang blue to the A3.

I was behind a Ferrari on the motorway today. It was red. Have to admit - no clue what model.

... anyway. So red is a good colour for daylight contrast. But you may have noticed that most of the emergency vehicles you will see are white with high-vis yellow, blue, orange or green checkering. This is because in low light our peripheral vision will not see colour. In low light our peripheral vision only detects shades of grey. Red is just seen as a dark image in these conditions. So in low light white is the best colour for visibility.

Though there circumstances where white can be hard to see. If there is fog or snow obviously. Also, cresting a hill, with white clouds in the sky.

Even silver in certain conditions with low sun reflecting of a wet road can be practically invisible.

Have a good look at the colour of our roads. They are light grey, dark grey or black (when wet). Yet these are very popular colours of car. Don't get me wrong - I love these colours - black especially. They are just too low contrast against the road for my liking. Thankfully, since 2011 daylight running lights (DRLs) have been compulsory.

Most people buy their cars coming into the long sunny days of our summer (pffff). Who stops to think - during the dark winter days when it is pouring down - that colour is going to be hard to see!

... I think about these things too much :sorry:

Estoril blue is a lovely colour though... oh wait... :search:

I agree on all comments on detailing dark Blue and Blacks, they look great when all buffed up but are a pain in the **** to keep looking their best. I have had many dark to mid Blue cars and loved them all but just too much work. I am a retired Old Fart and have a ton of time to detail cars. The last two cars were white and very easy to look after but boring to look at.
I have ordered a 2017 S3 and as you can see from my avatar I went back to blue but a light to medium shade. I trust that it will be a wee bit less demanding but in my neck of the woods all you see are, Black, Grey, White, Silver, dark Blue and the occasional Red and mid Blue.
Ara Blue rules :cool new: but only in some countries as a standard colour for 2017.
