My first (8L) S3 had a similar problem. No one could identify why I was going through a litre of oil every week! I ended up moving the car on via a p/ex.

Good write up from Pulp84. Sums up the MINI nicely especially in comparison with the S3.

    S3 bonding

^^ Great post and agree with everything above. I had an M135i for just under two years. It's certainly a handful at speed and can feel 'floaty'. Suspension is upset easily by inperfections/potholes though the 18" rims have a more compliant ride than my S3 with the 19's even with magnetic...

I've had a Mini JCW for the afternoon.

Given the choice between an S3 and a JCW MINI, the S3 wins every time! Yes, the MINI is 'involving' but really for the wrong reasons, as you're fighting to keep the car in a straight line, you'll have forearms like Popeye before too long... To be fair, they're vastly different cars and...

I've had a Mini JCW for the afternoon.

Shortly after I bought the mini I got a new job which meant a 66-mile round trip every day. MPG was good though. I averaged 42mpg during the time I owned it. I didn't lose out too much on the MINI because I paid cash for a pre-registered model (yes, used, but only 3,000 miles on the clock)...

I've had a Mini JCW for the afternoon.

Here's my R56 JCW which I owned for 9 months: The car was well spec'd with sports seats, panoramic roof, H/K sound. I ditched the runflats and replaced the springs but ultimately the car was a pain in the **** to drive over a long distance. The steering had no feel. I've never owned a car...

Hello - new member and new S3 Saloon/Sedan owner :)

Hey Jordan, thanks. More pics of my car are linked-to above. The spec is below in my signature. Only thing not showing in the sig' is Magnetic Ride which is a standard fit. Cheers! I'll try and take more pics one day when I'm at a location which is more scenic than my driveway. :)

    Does your S3 turn heads

Ha! ... and, no, probably because my missus was in the car at the time...

    Does your S3 turn heads

From time to time. Last week a girl was filling up her TT as I was filling up my S3. She asked me if it was some kind of new Audi Coupe...

Why did you buy an S3?

I think you might be right there. Though from an ownership point of view an S3 is streets ahead of a JCW - even one with Bilstein coilovers like the R56 I had. I think a lot of fairly regular modern cars just aren't built with much thought given to rather important traits such as damping and...

Why did you buy an S3?

RS5 - awesome and potentially next on my list but agree with Simon L, to compare it against an S3 is somewhat unfair given the substantial difference in price!

    Advice please

Excellent choice of wheels (if I do say so myself).

Why did you buy an S3?

I'm not singling out anyone. I'm replying to Veeeight's post. Someone else had posted in another thread that he only ever drove around everywhere with all settings in 'dynamic' - which I think is absolutely nuts (because the ride would be too firm and the steering would be too stiff) but I...
