2008 S3 whining noise after driving through puddle

last night i drove through a puddle at about 50ish mph and it slowed me right down. didnt think nothing of it and went home. this morning i drove the car abut 2 miles and all of a sudden noticed a very high pitched noise coming from the engine area. happens at idle and while at revs and speed but not when under load regardless if the clutch is engaged or disengaged. i have been driving the car for about a hour since i noticed the noise and it seems to have got worse!! any ideas??

Stop driving it, take it to a garage.

Could literally be anything. No one on the internet will be able to give you a definitive answer.

just had a local recovery firm out saying to just spray some wd40 on the pulleys as it could just be water in them
