Hi all,
Must say I'm loving being the proud owner of a black edition and thank you to everyone who posted advice in my thread before I bought one.
I'm just a little concerned about my DSG gearbox. Now I've taken it for a motorway and A-road drive and around town too so have covered all types of driving in it.
It changes up smooth, kicks down nicely, the tiptronic mode is good, everything works as it should bar 2 things. The clank when it down shifts from 3rd to 2nd gear and very rarely 4th to 3rd. Now here's something I've noticed...(relatively speaking) when I brake harder its almost as though the box chucks itself into 3rd from 4th or 2nd from 3rd and that helps slowing the car down (and making the clunk), whereas if I brake more gently then the down changes happen with no noises at all and very smoothly...the best way I can describe is if you were driving a manual car, and you down changed before your speed was appropriate for the gear you were down changing into, you'd feel the car decelerate quickly and sharply if you took your foot of the clutch...any ideas?
Secondly, and this happens more around town cos I drive with the window down and can hear it, again the box works perfectly but makes all sorts of weird and wonderful clicks and clunks sometimes...I'm almost starting to think they are made like that because it changes up/down fine, just makes some noise about it lol...does anyone know what it could be?
Looking at its history, the box has had the oil and filter changes down on time every time and it was just recently done as part of a service before I bought the car.
Maybe I can describe it this way.is the DSG built for giving the fastest gear change rather than the smoothest drive, or should it be doing both?
And lastly, when I turn the engine off there is a squeak like a belt or tensioner type squeak from the right hand side of the engine if you're facing out when sat in the driver seat, which is the left hand side of the engine if you had your head under the bonnet. Again, does anyone have any ideas?
Please be considerate with your advice (not that you arent) because I'm considering taking out a 3rd party warranty just incase for the gear box...
thanks in advance
PS Next week I'll be home in Yorkshire, any chance someone local could take me out in their car so I can try compare? Amongst my own friends the closest I have access to is a 2005 BKD DSG 140 but I'm guessing the engine/gearbox are totally different?
