Strange Pump issue

Hi guys,

ive just had a flat battery a few times on the S3 and found that there is a heater (connected to heater/ cooling pipes) with a small pump, on the front of engine above the fans which seems to be running for a long time.

anyone any idea what it is for? and how long it should run for when car stopped?

It's an over run pump (secondary) coolant pump, it provides engine coolant to the the turbo as soon as the ignition is on, they generally run for around 5minutes after ignition is switched off.
