I bought my a3 a couple of weeks ago and immediately i noticed the lights were a bit too low and i couldn't see far ahead on country lanes at night, i immediately adjusted them via the screws on the headlights just to give me a little more range. Since i have read they should only be adjusted when in MOT mode, could there be an undesired effect of adjustments I made? I know they still need setting in a MOT bay to be 100% but I mean electronical or mechanical effects?

Simply guesstimate the original setting.
Then using VCDS, to put in what you call "MOT mode".
It's easy to do yourself, I've done it many times.
Car unladen.
On flat level land, park car as close as possible to a flat wall.
Switch on dipped beam and mark the brightest part of each headlight light light beam on the wall.
Drive back 5m. The beam shining on the wall should now be 5cm below the marked position on the wall. If not use adjusters.
After setting beam, follow instruction on VCDS and exit program.

Viols..job done

Cheers pal, just need vdcs now lol. Will it do any harm to leave it?
