anyone painted theyre own front wings?

need to get a pair of front wings for my avant and seen some on ebay for £30-40 each but need painting, now ive painted bumpers etc before but never wings and wondered do they need priming first or are they ok to key over that black colour they come in and then throw my paint over them?

Degrease, prime them, flatten it, tack cloth, etc, then top coat and lacquer. The OE wings rust so why miss a crucial step. Preparation is everything.

cheers mate so they do need priming then, didnt know whether they came primered or not already!
