....on 2nd AVS TDi Quattro, has done about 34k for service, was advised to have Haldex Oil & Filter done at 40k rather than at service interval..

Cost for 2nd AVS £350 & Haldex Oil & Filter £150

Does that sound correct, Dealer prices btw

Cheers /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif

Get an Audi specialist to do the serving. My local Audi dealer is charging almost £80 per hour!

My local dealer lowers its hourly rate for cars over 3yrs old to around £55 a hour. Is this just something they do or do all dealerships do this?

it depends, the maintenance schedule says to replace brake fluid every 24 months, rather than giving a milage interval.

mine will be due next year then, cheers!!

What is the justification for this? I can't see any reason why brake fluid will neturally degrade in a 2yr period.

Is it to do with air getting in the system or something. I just dont believe it needs doing that frequently.

no idea. I suspect that they have averaged the life of the fluid, then reduced it further to remain uber safe. I should think it's to do with the oil deteriorating due to the heat.

I supose showing that you've had the brake fluid cant harm the resale value for the car later down the line, every two years is nothing when u spread the cost for having it changed over the two year period hey.

Brake fluid absorbs moisture from the air this causes two problems
1) corrosion
2) the moisture in the brake fluid can boil so converts from liquid to gas and as the gas is compressible brake effect is reduced

But if the brake system is sealed, then where/how does the moisture get in?

I know there would be a bit of air trapped in the brake fluid reservoir, but even so...

Any ideas?

And like a phoenix from the flames he resurrects the thread!

My TDI quattro's due it's second AVS service seeing as it's done 44k. I had a quote yesterday from Bedford Audi for £372.82 (what's the point of the 82p). That was without the brake fluid.

Any other recent quotes folks?

Why not take it up to APS in Brackley and probably save a packet?
