Hi,
Firstly i should tell you that my car is an Audi S3 8P 57 plate with 66000 on the clock, now down to business.
For the past couple of weeks i've had misfire's on my car, they were quite bad and really noticeable so i plugged my car into vagcom and got live data that it was misfiring on cylinder 3 just before the turbo kicked in pretty much in each gear, i took the bluefin off and tried it then, now it wasnt as bad as before with the bluefin but over time it was getting worse and more noticeable. After i came back from holiday i'd had enough so i went to euro car parts and bought some NGK laser platinum PFR7S8EG for £38 as i had NGK in the old S3 8L, i had read that for some people these don't work but thought id give it a go regardless. So on wednesday night me and my mate changed them, took the coil packs out to find cylinder 1 & 4 had dried water marks on them and cylinder 2 & 3 had oil marks on them. We looked inside the cylinder to find no trace of water in 1&4 and a drop of oil so in 2 & 4 (which i understand is a leak from the Cam Cage or something along those lines but one problem at a time please) after the cylinders were cleaned and i cleaned the coil packs with electrical cleaner we pulled out the plugs.
Now when i had my car serviced at Worcester Audi they told me that the plugs had not been changed according to their records and when my mate who i should mention is a mechanic took the plugs out, he seems to think they were the originals from the factory and was amazed.
They had V.W printed on the side and were bosch but they were very old from the looks. We replaced them with the NGK's and the difference was amazing on standard setup, the engine felt so smooth and revved really nice and actually felt better than when i purchased the car with 43000 on the clock.
So the next day i wanted to see what it would go like with the Bluefin installed and i was amazed it pulled so much better than it has ever done, i really was pleased and wondered how bad those plugs must have been for it to perform like this. Then the misfires started to come back so i kept driving but then the engine management light started to flash, now i had this before when it was misfiring prior to replacing the plugs but it had always gone off after 5 seconds, this time it stayed on even after turning off the engine and back on.
So today i have plugged it into Vagcom and cleared the fault code and went for a live data run and sure enough it was misfiring on cylinder 3 again but this time it was missing a lot more, before with the old plugs it would detect 6 or 7 misfires on cylinder 3 when accelerating and then refresh the counter back to zero. Today it was going from 0 to 27 misfires on the counter and then refreshing back to zero. I've now taken off the Bluefin and reverted it back to standard and there are no misfires at all now so all is good.
So my question to you fine people is, is my car misfiring with the Bluefin installed because it doesnt get on with the plugs and i should go buy the Bosch OEM ones, could it be the fact that now the plugs are fixed when i ask for more power from the Bluefin its showing up that the Coil packs are also weak and on there way out (i don't know if these have ever been changed from new), could it be the injectors which i would hope not as i always use the best super unleaded and use petrol cleaner occasionally or could it be the map is a bad map or had a bad install.
I do plan on going to Revo Stage 2+ next year as i already have a complete exhaust system, just need the CAI and HPFP but i want to get this sorted before i even look at that.
Thanks Guys & Girls
