On route to R-Tech my standard clutch on 84k started slipping so it is time for it to be replaced.

I'm currently running just under 310 bhp but this will soon be a bit more when the down pipe, HPFP and another map is added.

I firstly contacted Alex at AKS and he suggested Helix which I now see is quite popular on the Golf forums. In Particular he recommended the 6 paddle clutch as the organic clutch just won't handle any launches.

I tend not to do launches but if a Golf GTI pulls up next to me at the lights I would like to have the option to!

This car isn't and won't be tracked. It is my daily driver which gets taken 15 miles to work where I usually get caught in traffic every morning and evening so do not want something too harsh. I would like to stick with the OEM DMF.

Most people on here seem to go for or recommend the Sachs SRE clutch.
Looking through some old posts on the MK5 forum and some are happily running a Helix organic clutch on their stage 2+ car with 380 ft lb torque. On the other hand another had the Sachs uprated organic clutch which started to slip after 15,000 and he mentions he didn't do any launches. I've also found a lot of posts of praise for Helix but most don't mention if they have had the organic or paddle options fitted.

The Helix organic has a higher torque tolerance compared to the Sachs organic.
Ideally I would go for the Helix 6 paddle so I know I'll be safe from slippage but everyone I have mentioned this to have told me to avoid paddle clutches for a daily driver. After doing some research It seems the 6 paddle isn't as on/off as a 4 paddle so would really be interested to have some reviews from the Helix 6 paddle owners or anyone that has some experience in this field.

Most go for the Sachs m8 and people are running it stage 2+ with out problems. I'd wait for S3Alex to give you some advice he's a wealth of knowledge and experience when it comes to set ups. Also if you haven't already bought you DP the lads are having a group buy on the BCS system, a quality exhaust by all accounts. Have a look at the post.

6 paddle clutches are very grabby to be fair. The preference on the 8P is either the Loba stage 2/3 with SMF or afew are now buying the Sachs set up with DMF as this can handle up to 400bhp. All depends on what you want. I've driven quite afew Stage mapped cars with allsorts of clutches in them and if you want instant power to the floor then the Loba SMF is ideal. For driveability if a daily drive fit the Sachs.

Good advice.

It's torque that kills clutches, and the Sachs is good for up to and slightly over 400lbs,but will not tolerate a lot of launches.

I've got a Spec Stg3+ clutch which is a full face carbon metallic clutch,so it doesn't grab like paddle clutches do,and to be honest isn't a lot more expensive than the Loba, but will handle up to 560lbs,so launches etc wouldn't be a problem for it.

I used a Sachs for 3yrs,without any problems.

@S3 AEX As much as I'd love a BCS downpipe I've secured a very low mileage Milltek.

I am swaying to the organic variety and just being a bit sensible. I'll do some reading on the Spec clutches as well.

Have any of you drove a car with a paddle clutch, preferably the 6 paddle clutch? I can't see it being too much fun in traffic. I had a Renault Sport 182 for three years a while back so I'm no stranger to stiff clutches which is what I believe the organic ones can be like when they are bedding in.

@Brodster I pretty sure I want to stick with a DMF.

I went for the Sachs kit, with a new OEM DMF. Waiting to get it booked into my local specialist at the moment.

Interested to see what you go for, my clutch is starting to slip when doing high load pulls. It's my daily driver but I do track days as well and I don't want to be replacing it 20K miles down the line. I have all the hardware for Stage 2+/3 and I'll probably be going to R-tech too once I've decided what to do and which option to go for!

+ 1 for Sach's Organic and LuK DM Great feel and as OE as your going to get and silent Love mine!!!!

I've driven cars with paddle clutches before.

I seriously would not recommend one for anyone who lives on a hill,or does much town driving.

If you need something that's both tough as old boots,AND usable in town, then the Spec will fit that nicely.

Was just looking at these clutches/flywheel they come up cheaper than the loba/sach kit im about to go stg 2+ with mine but clutch needs doing first as slipping under boost.
so S3ALEX are spec a good all round clutch? As dont really fancy pulling box out again any time soon

I'd say so.

It will take more torque than your gearbox will, and it's light and easy to use.

Up to 560lbs
