ignition lock defective

audi a4 b8 2010

my dash has started to come up with ignition lock defective

the ignition fob works but doesn't click into place it and slides out half the time

any reason for this ?

iv seen some new ignitions on ebay ,

would I need to program the key or the ignition barrel if I switched it to a new one ?

Does it happen if you use your other key fob (presuming you have a spare)?
Also, the key fob can sometimes fail to engage properly if the two recesses at the end of the key fob get bunged up with fluff.
