So I've just been through the nightmare of the dreaded DSG mechatronic unit failure and wanted to share my experience.

Mine started with the PRNDS light flashing and the car would only drive in first gear, limp mode maybe? .. If left for 30 minutes or so it would reset and drive fine, however as soon as the key is removed and put back in. The issue came back. The car was scanned and came up with codes:

P1824 - modulation pressure solenoid valve 3, open circuit /valve short.
&
P1746 - solenoid valve power supply power defective.

Now apparently you can replace some of the solinoids inside the ECU (mechatronic), but I ended up going down the route of buying a new unit from Audi. I used an VW/Audi specialists in Leeds called IVC to fit it. With the genuine Audi part you get 2 years guarantee... So if it faulted in those 2years you do not pay a penny, not even for fitting. However, you can save £££ initially and buy a new one from a company in Germany called DSG doktor (speak to Eric), you can potentially save approx £500! And you get 12months warrenty, but if it goes wrong you still have to pay for it removing, shipping etc. DSG doktor can also send the unit pre-programmed ready to fit, so if you fancy doing the job yourself this is a huge bonus. Also, they can supply it remapped for better gear changes, adjust the torque limiter, and improve on the oil cooling for an additional £199 Euros.
Personally I want to keep my car another year or so, and that's why I went for the Audi part with 2 year warrenty. Total cost was £2k, the part itself from Audi for mine was £1556 Inc vat and I needed a new sump cover too.
I hope this might help anyone else I'm future in terms of options and which route to take.
