New S3, New Focus ST or M135i

Oh and as far as thread is concerned, I now wouldn't pick any of the cars mentioned when you can get an almost ultimate driving experience and get some change...........

Having been round Thruxton with Tiff in his own car I can vouch for the unbelievable ability of these cars. No one could ever successfully use the available performance on the road.

Believe me you're not going to be complaining about bounce or anything else associated with handling.

Well, it has a proper engine in it, for a start :D

Funny you should think that.

There are barely any ex S3 8v drivers that have moved across to the M135i according to their forum.

However there are quite a few ex M135i drivers on here....(myself included).

Sorry but as an all round ownership proposition, I think the S3 is the wiser choice.

Interesting - but here's one S3 owner who is seriously looking about swapping to the M135i. Indeed its a nice but for me it just doesn't hack it any more, the fun factor has long gone

Broken Record anyone?! Give up and sell up!

Pretty much everything is subjective, All 3 cars originally mentioned are great cars I'm sure, OP - you're best option will be to test drive each properly and you will make you're own mind up :)

Just goes to show how bad the Golf Match must be :welcoming:
It's actually a cracking car. My Mrs has one, 3 months old as we both got them at the same time. I prefer driving hers than my s3 for the way it handles and feels. It's also full of kit too, AAC, heated seats, Auto lights, DAB which is actually very user friendly. Yes it's not powerful but I really like it. And for £160 a month with £1k down it was a bargain too!

Don't disagree Simon, and don't get me wrong, I'm actually disappointed that I'm disappointed with my S3! For the first 8k miles I loved it, it was fault free, and I was happy as Larry - with all the issues being reported here, I had none of them - suddenly in the last 4k miles I've just lost the trust in it where it's been one thing after another. But its a little more than that, I don't know what it is but every time I go into a dealership, I just get the impression that there is a lack of interest, and that they feel they are doing me a favour - I just find it cold? Car issues / Friday builds aside, just for that reason, my next purchase is unlikely to be an Audi. My sister just had a similar experience in buying a new 1.4CoD A3, what is up with these Audi dealerships? I actually don't think mine is a Friday special, more I think its design issues and quality of parts fitted, or to be more specific the Turbo's being utilised.

My fear? That the damn thing will go wrong again out of warranty - there are enough threads on here about turbo rattle with S3's and Audi indicating that they "all do that" - had my turbo replaced already under warranty at8.5K miles, but if that goes again I really don't want the bill and it seems that the issue is still prevalent in this model (although touch wood mine isn't doing it again, and hopefully won't). Plus if the rattle comes back and you want to trade in or sell privately - who the heck would believe the bull about "They all do that" - I wouldn't if I was buying second hand, I'd walk away and find another that didn't rattle.

It pains me that a car that I purchased with a view of keeping 4-5 years I now doubt, which is why it will be sold / traded for something else before the warranty is up in 18 months time. I'd love to buy another but with the turbo rattle still an issue even in current models, then much as I like the S3, it won't be another sadly. Nor an RS3, as although a different engine, I'm not paying a 10K premium for a bit of noise. If Audi sort it in that time, then its back on the list for consideration.

And for sure I could go elsewhere and get exactly the same. Pays your money and all that.....time will tell, another 6 months or so before I need to start making some decisions and ordering my next steed.
Mine has a 4 year warranty and I doubt I'll keep it 1 year, fancy buying mine?? It's just clocked 700 miles since July.

This naughty step is getting very crowded :p

Calling it the ultimate driving machine is a bit bold as it depends what you want from a car, performance wise it's on equal terms with the current hot hatch breed and the brakes are made from chocolate, then there's the ancient looking interior and the power all being up top meaning it's very rare you can actually use its power in British roads. Can't fault the handling though or the engine noise, pure theatre although I'd take a C63 myself

missed the 'm'... I haven't even got mine yet!

Opps

More than that mate, its getting boring :blahblah1:

Agreed. If your not sure what car you want. Test drive them all. Shorten the list, test drive again. Careful asking for other peoples opinions .
We all want different things from our cars so you'll end up with this mess (Yeah, I know I'm part of it)

If it were only gushing praise for Audi's in this or any forum, whether Audi or not, it soon turns into a circle jerk and echo chamber.

As been said many times before by many people, far preferable to have honesty than just propaganda.

Lol this whole Audi 8v section is mental...there appears to be a lot of people who don't like it or rate it. Did nobody go for a test drive ha?

I guess a test drive for say 45 minutes gives you a short term feeling for the car. Some issues set in after a few weeks at least. That's life

No car is perfect... otherwise we'd all be driving it. Every car has its faults or should say strengths and weaknesses and more importantly owners have their priorities in what we want out of a car, whether that's power, driveability or even badge snobbery (dare I say it, owning 3 Skoda's over the last 15 years). I don't like the look of M135, I just don't want a Ford... the only cars I considered was the S3 and a Golf R, the later, a simple failure to talk to me at a dealers in the 30 mins or so I was in there lost a potential sale. I did drive the S3 albeit not manual or a SB but for 2 hours and it was enough to convince it was good enough for me. No doubt I will find something that could (or even should) have been better done... my two pence worth and looking forward to ownership

This thread has kept me entertained for well over a week now. I think I was properly on the naughty step before but having done a drive to Cheshire and back this weekend.... The s3 was a pleasure to drive on the motorway. Engine on dynamic, steering on comfort and it was so easy, plus as mine is de-badged I thoroughly enjoyed smoking lots of A4 s-lines on the M62

As a member stated earlier, it's all subjective. It depends what you want out of a car and what you're willing to spend. With regards to tarring people with the same brush because of what car they drive, you need to get your head out of your **** lol.

Megane 275 Trophy-R v Civic Type R

Megane any day every day over that ghastly Honda. Girl at my work was asking me about my swap from the golf r to the s3 and asked if I'd considered the type r...lol no was my answer. Reason she asked is that her neighbour works for Honda and he brought back a fully specced type r...37k WTF?! Not a chance would I pay that

No doubt as a machine the Honda is fantastic.

Shame the interior is as hideous and as plasticy as anything I've ever seen though. I mean - its really really bad.

And the outside looks like its crashed into the Ripspeed aisle in Halfords.

Did look at the Mugen Type R - performs well if the youtube clips are anything to go by, but worth £40K plus - hmmmmm.

Yes, but they're french, and they will end up breaking eventually. Probably sooner rather than later. Every Renault I've owned has been a pig.

I've owned 6 Renaultsport's and with the exception of my first Clio V6, which let 3 coils go, they were without fault.
Definitely a brand I have a lot of time for. They know how to develop a car from the bottom up that is aimed at driving pleasure. Bags full of character too.

Been said before, but far too much badge snobbery these days. The only person that misses out from badge snobbery is yourself.

I'll definitely have another Renaultsport one day.

I've owned two Renaults over the last 5 years, they are made out of the cheapest materials known to man! Wouldn't own another. French don't make cars to last, all about the Germans for me.
