The 1.4 COD is a great engine - with S-Tronic it's decent though you'll probably get more power out of it in manual. You certainly won't be disappointed with it and as others have said you'll get used to the drop in power.
I got my car while we were in the process of buying our first house 6 months ago. I had no idea how much bills will cost me, or food or anything...but now I've settled in - I'm kicking myself for not getting an S3 when I had a chance, but then the extra dosh comes in handy! I spend most of it on car cleaning products...
