hi all, currently using 5w40 oil (not sure what brand) in my 54 plate A3 which has covered 187k miles.
Should I be using 5w30 instead I know these engines do have a lumpy idle.
Would changing to a top brand Like Castrol Edge or Mobil reduce engine vibration?
I was advised by a family member because my car has done over 150k I should use 5w40.

Finally if it is recommended to go 5w30. Castrol or Mobil?
Thanks

Still should be 5w.30. VW505 or 506 or 507 One of these for your BKD http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-2354-lo...0:0,98627:0,133382:0,167661:0&yearFilter=2006 You don't need the Long Life versions if you are servicing yearly but can use it if you want.
Also Halfords sell VW approved oil for a bit less, in fact there many brands around that do the job just as well, have a look at the pack, it will say For VW cars and give the grade VW505 506 507.

Won't cure the vibration, that could be lots of causes, engine mounts, EGR valve caked up with soot are just 2 causes.

Use the LongLife 5W30 as an annual service because it is higher quality.

507.00 is the magic number .

Cheapest 5L approved oil is Quantum (VW's own brand) for £23.70 last time I looked on eBay .

Thanks for reply, well I can rule out EGR caked up got it cleaned out 4-5 months ago.

I use castrol 5W30 as well.

Found some nice prices as you mentioned on Quantum and also Castrol Edge

I'am Vw audi expert. Go for 5w40 pd oil, forget new eu stupid regulations. Do you know why late cars braking down so much? Oil is very important, so go for a good one 5w40 PD! Forget 507.00 unless you happy to start fixing your engine parts.

Oh Jesus where do I start....

Increased oil viscosity has no relationship with oil film strength and between the two is a negligible difference , however one is of higher quality !!

Late dervs are breaking down so much because of so much fragile planned obsolescence complicated and too many prerequisites required Euro 6 emissions equipment such as dpf , egr , adwee , Stop Start , oil coolers , egr coolers , timing chain tensioners , ****** all to do with 507.00 or 0W20 508.00 oil , LongLife intervals aside .
