Hi

I have an A3 2L 138 tdi 11 plate, which has had the engine management light flashing on 2 occasions. Both times it appeared while driving and when very heavy rain. After the journey had ended and the key removed, the warning light had gone.

Am I right that the error code doesn't get stored into a fault log?

I spent many hours reading into VAG scanners and OBD2's with Torque app but please may I ask for some up to date info on the route to go down into finding the issue. At the moment of thinking of buying either :

or

Any advise would be gratefully received.

Thx for reply, does that mean the car has a fault log so even when the engine management light is off the VCDS user will be able to see why the light came on in the past ?

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure it gives you the date, time and mileage on the freeze frame.

Where are you located?

Birmingham, but interested in doing the work myself, hence scanning advice sort. :sunglasses:. What price am I looking at for a good enough DIY enthusiast?

Carista OB2 is a good cheap alternative for the DIY £32 on amazon, and gives the same read out as a vcds, unless you want a live running readout. You can also do a lot of car changes on the pro version for an extra £16 as apposed to a genuine Ross Tech VCDS at £270.
