Hey All,
The time has come for my 2000 S3 (61000) for a cambelt change.

Could someone let me know what sort of price i should be paying, an whether anyone can recommend the best place to go to in Surrey in the south for a first rate job and good price.

What sort of prices are people paying, and what else should be changed while they are doing the cambelt?

Many Thanks

Cambelt, Tensioners and Waterpump (make sure the water pump has a metal impellor); Changing the pump will also requires the coolant being changed so you might as well as ask them to flush all the crap out of the system too.

I'd expect to pay £350 from an independant garage or £500 from an Audi dealer. In the absence of an independant VAG specialist it may be worth getting a quote from your local Skoda garage as they'll be trained to work with the 1.8T but will have lower labour rates.

Audi now have changed there stance and recommend changing the cambelt at 4 years or 60,000 miles whichever comes 1st.

Audi are doing a special promotion at the moment so you may be able to get a good price from you local Audi main dealer.

I am having mine replaced next week as mine is an 02 and has 63000 miles.

You need the belt and tensioners done as a minimum - the bulk of the cost is labour

I am also having the water pump replaced at the same time as it a relatively cheap part and is accessable when changing the belt - adds half an hour labour max.

I was quoted £300 inc for all this work from local VAG specialists. However I am having mine done at my main dealer for £350 as I though it would be nice to have it in the service history for future resale and I have built up a good relationship with them over the years so they have pulled out a few extra stops

Just spoken to my local dealer (Ridgeway Newbury) about getting the cambelt changed as they had sent me a letter (10 days ago) about the fact that the interval is now 4 years, BUT Audi have changed their stance AGAIN and put it back to 80K miles or 8 years??!??
