It's taken me a little time, but the differences between MY16 and MY17 Audi Connect are in fact set out in the respective brochures.

The world at your fingertips.
Audi Connect is the link between your Audi and the Internet,
giving you access to entertainment, information and search
functions via scrolling, tapping or verbal commands.
With high-speed 4G Internet access in your car,* you can call
up flight information, fuel prices and weather, as well as
high-resolution aerial and satellite pictures from Google
Earth™ and Google Street View™. It also features an in-car
wireless hotspot, allowing passengers to access their mobile
devices, connecting you to the journey ahead, and your
world beyond.
Audi Connect is available as a 3-month trial on Sport and
S line models or a 3-year subscription can be purchased as
part of the optional Technology Pack.

In order to use Audi Connect you will require a separate SIM card
with data option (which can be inserted into the included SIM card
reader). If LTE usage is required, the SIM card will also need an
LTE option. When a separate SIM card is used, hands-free phone
calls are possible by connecting a different mobile telephone via
Bluetooth Hands Free Profile.
Online services will only be available within the coverage of the
mobile phone network; there may be additional costs for the use
of these services (charges and billing correspond to the personal
mobile phone contract or SIM card contract).
Due to high data volumes, a mobile phone contract including an
unlimited or high usage data plan is strongly recommended. The
content and scope of the online based services offered may vary.
The Audi Connect services provided as part of the 3-month trial
from vehicle delivery are available for 3-months from activation.
If ordering the full Audi Connect subscription, the Audi Connect
services provided from vehicle delivery are available for at least
a year. After 24 months from delivery of the vehicle, the term of
the Audi Connect services will be extended free of charge once for
12 months.
Audi Connect enables access to the services of Google and
Twitter. Permanent availability cannot be guaranteed as this is the
responsibility of Google and Twitter. Please note that the services
received are also dependent on the capability of your mobile phone.
