Hello,

I've just noticed this error on a VCDS scan:

1 Fault Found:
4807 - EGR System
P0401 00 [096] -Insufficient Flow
Intermittent - Not Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 00000001
Fault Priority: 2
Fault Frequency: 1
Mileage: 155571 km
Date: 2016.06.18
Time: 16:40:50

Does this mean my EGR might be on its way out or just need a clean? My car is a 96k miles 3.0 TDi

Thanks.

To remove the EGR from the housing is a pain and break - you can try cleaning it and fingers crossed it works.
Worst case delete the dpf which will allow you to turn off the egr via sw.

It means the EGR valve has been instructed to open as per the map and the air mass meter hasn't hit flow specification (air mass is essentially EGR feedback), in this case hasn't flow dropped enough hence logged fault. As mentioned, an alternative to EGR replacement may be something to think about here.
