I just got back from my service at an Audi specialist and at the end they say me down and warned me about a problem with the chain tensioner on my year of car, they said Audi used two different tensioners on the drive chain, one of which was known for releasing and damaging the engine to the tune of £2k+. They said there is no way they can tell which tensioner I have unless they check it physically but recommended I did so. I know they wouldn't be trying it on as they were recommended here and come with strong recommendations, I have used them for years and they are excellent.
What did make me wonder though is I have custom plates on my car which are 57 but my car is actually a 10 plate 1.8 TFSI, it was the person In the office who told me so he may have just seen the number plate on the system rather than my car so he wouldn't know it was a 10 plate. I did some of my own research and it looks like it may be the FSI that has this problem but I couldn't find any info about the TFSI. Can anyone here clear this up for me? If my engine is affected then I will book it in to be checked but if they had told me this based on my number plate I didn't want to waste the time/money.
Cheers
